tank pads

Just wondering. I had my bike repainted and I replaced all of the factory decals. It came with a tank pad when I bought it but now I'm undecided if I want to replace the tank pad or not? It was good for looks (I guess). What is the real function of the tank pad anyway???????

look into 3m tankbra. Protects very well and cant been seen unless you look for it or are very close
