taking apart gen 1 gagues

if I want to take apart the gauges to change the led color, do I need to desolder the motors as I see in some older threads? or can I just pop off the needles?

I had a friend install my glow gauges and all i can say is Be Careful.............. You would think this mod is easy but it was tricky to say the least. I dont know the brand you bought but the kit i got off ebay took a while to do it right. I imagine there are a few people that jacked up a set or 2  Even after they were installed I had to take the gauges back apart and lightly sand the material around the needle because it was sticking.

basically just leds to replace the stock ones.

but do I just pull the needles straight off? or desolder the motors?

Take needles off the face with 2 spoons. Easy!
Is that what you mean or have I not understood your question?

yeah, that is what I mean. I saw some posts recommending desoldering the motors instead of pulling the needles.

Its been a while since it was done but i think my friend slid the gauges over the needle. I forget why he said to do it that way but it came out looking and working fine.

That depends on the brand of after-market gauge you're putting on. The OEM gauges won't slide off though.
