I'm not even sure what the drill bit method is. I'll take your word for it for the time being. Besides, I already have the Motion Pro Mercury sticks so I'd just as soon keep getting my money's worth there.(Greg B @ Oct. 09 2006,19) Don't trust the drill bit method. You are only setting the butterflies with these and not tuning to the vacuum pull of each individual cylinder. The vacuum can be off just a little bit on a cylinder and the bike won't run nearly as well as perfectly synced throttle bodies/carbs.
Go ahead and spend the money on some nice mercury gages. Don't bother with dial gages. The carb tunes's look very nice though I've never seen them in person. I have a 20 year old set of mercury filled glass tubes. They work great and it takes less than a half hour to make sure they are synced correctly. Well worth the money and easy to do. If you've never done it before I would recommend finding someone who knows what they are doing to learn the first time.
ain't nothing but a thing of beauty is a turbo punkin!!!!!(03HAYABOOSTA @ Sep. 24 2006,01:12) Thanks. ill look at it. only little problem is that my bike is turbo'd and im not sure if the procedure is the same. theres so many more vacuum lines now for the wastegate and blow off valve now.
