Suicide by Cop....

Not faulting anyone, don't really get any training, but people bail out of cars all the time. My seat belt is off by time I roll to a stop and if I see movement, much less a door crack I'm up in the door hinge area and at low ready. Glad they survived. God was with them.

wow crazy!
That dude lost his ever lovin mind!
i can't imagine shooting at a badguy THROUGH my windshield!
score one for the goodguys. sounds like this fella may have been planning something bigger.

Being new to US and not knowing how things roll here, the first time I got stopped in CA, I got out of the car. The LEO pulled his gun, pointed and yelled "GET BACK INTO THE CAR!!!!". So I got back in and he came up to the window. I said sorry, not from here and handed him my international driving licence and passport. He was kind, said "never do that again" wrote me a warning for speeding.

Fast forward three years later, now with a green card I get stopped in OK, with CA plate registration. LEO comes up to the window and yells: "DO YOU SPEAK ENGLISH!!!!???" Me: "Yes sir, actually I speak perfect English, you however don't; you speak American." LEO yells. "GET OUT OF THE CAR!!!!!!!!!!!"

I thought I was going to die, get shot, but he ended up escorting me into his passenger seat and wrote me a ticket.

+1

I can't speak for other parts of the country, but around here most officers will immediately contact the driver during a "routine" traffic stop. Vehicle occupants generally aren't allowed any extra time to hide items or prepare an ambush like that. Not saying it can't still happen, but this guy obviously had some free time between stopping the vehicle and attacking. Either way, I'm just glad the officers got out of it alive.

ya know in many parts of the country cops ask the driver to step outside of their car. thats is a BIG no-no around here as well as many other areas of our country but I still see many cops doing that down south having the operator exit the car which is utterly stupid imo.

they do it in Texas all the time and several troppers have been disarmed and killed as a result. they seem to think if you take the operator or operators out of the vehicle while you are their by urself it will somehow be safer. I dont know what would make them think that but they are out of their f-en mind!

as soon as I stop someone I immediatley exit my car and go to the rear. I run the plate BEFORE I stop them not after and I NEVER approach the drivers side under any circumstances unless I have already approached the passenger side and at that point the driver is ordered to keep his hands of the steering wheel and take the keys out of the ignition. ur a sitting duck waiting to be shot when you approach the drivers side. you have ZERO cover and concealment on the drivers side and ur also a few feet away from moving traffic that can be far more dangerous then a bullet.

I often write tcikets from the rear of my car as well cause I hate the feeling of sitting in the drivers seat knowing the driver could exit his vehicle and start shooting at me. you cant pat everyone down nor search their car for weapons on rountine MV stops. you just dont have the legal grounds to do that. you can have them exit the vehicle if you chose to but that is only done when a cover officer arrives on scene.

the longer you sit inside in that car the longer the operator has to think about what he or she is going to do if they are armed.

most people are right handed. in fact 75-95% of the population is righ handed so IF the driver has a pistol he will simply shoot you in the face when you walk up to the car. or stick his hand of the window and start shooting in ur direction. he could be a bad shot and still hit you as he watches you walk up in his side view mirror. its happened NUMEROUS times but I have NEVER heard it happen when approaching the passenger side.

cops approach the drivers side because of ego NOT because it is tactically sound. if this cop had exited his vehicle and approached the drivers side like 99% of the cops I know or have ever seen on the road, TV, movies, etc.... he would have been cut in half by that AK-47. on the passenger side you would at least have a chance of defending urself cause you would have cover (the car) and concealment (the car).

when riding in a two man car like they were then ur passenger clears the car BEFORE you walk up to the drivers side. THEN I may ask the operator to exit his vehicle and walk to the back and onto the sidewalk but only after ur partner sees that the operator is not holding a gun in his or her hand.

at least the finger was the only damage, that could have been way worse, just glad no other officers or bystanders were hurt.

gnbrett, you have my repsect having to walk up to cars would not be a very fun job

If I was the cop, I would of reloaded, and unloaded again. Maybe several times. No scumbag drug addict going to ruin my life. If he wanted suicide by cop I'd grant his wish.

I have a friend that trained me in active shooter. He was so bad, kill, kill, kill. One to the coconut blah, blah, blah. He was confronted with someone that wanted to end their life and placed his muzzle on his partner. My friend did what he had to do. He ended one mans life while saving anothers. He never returned to duty.

I watched the video again and turned it a the way up. It sure songs like the guy is yelling "kill me".
yes u r correct Charlie that is exactly what he was yelling.

its not ur typical suicide by cop simply because he really was trying to kill both or at least one of them.

and just to clarify you can see in this picture that he clearly eats the stop sign....
