Steering Damper Question

Mine has been the same, '99, doesn't seem to impair operation. I seem to remember when I first started coming here there was something about that, some were trying to tighten it up with washers, coz they thought that was the reason behind the clunking noise over low speed humps,

My mates 00 is the same

Mine does (99 copper) and always has. Annoying when going over bumps etc. Doesn't seem to effect performance.

The steering damper on my '00 appears to be loose. I can reach down thru the steering opening and shake it up and down. It's been this way since day one.

Is a loose damper normal?

It's definitely connected at both ends properly. Do dampers need some slack to operate properly? Does anybody else's damper move up and down about an inch.
