Hello fellow Busa lovers, I'm having a hard time starting my bike. It will start but that's after I've played with the clutch, pulling it in and out until I find a certain spot, the it will catch. What could this be? Someone told me it was the contact but that's too vague for me, is there another name for it? will switching levers solve this problem? PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Thanks in Advance
Mike

If you have adjustments on the lever try adjusting it and see what happens. The lever sound worn. You can remove the lever and add duct tape to the cam as a quick fix.

On the perch (thing that holds the lever) there is a plug with 2 wires. Unplug that. Now MAKE SURE THE BIKE IS IN NEUTRAL.

Stick a peice of automotive wire,(obviously stripped at each end),into each of those connectors.Make sure there is good contact. You have now bridged the connection and taken the switch out of the equation.

If the bike flashes right up,that switch is either dirty or toast. You could also try cleaning the 2 peices of metal that those 2 plugs go on to.They are called spade connectors.

Sounds like alot...its about 5 minutes.

RSD.

Yes,could be a bad connection somewhere (doubtful)

Yep. could be the safety switch, had mine crap out and did as RSD suggested until I could order a new one.

Mind you, if you do do the gapping, your bike will now be able to start in gear! Don't want you to end up on your bum.

:welcome: & Good luck.

I took a bug strike to that switch and caused the same problems. A little WD-40 and working the button on the switch fixed everything. Bug guts are sticky I guess. How a bug made it there I'm not sure, but it did.

miketurf: You can check the free travel of this "button" by removing the lever if desired. The lever bolt has a nut on the bottom, which needs to be removed first, then the bolt on top is threaded. In case you didnt know. We've had guys just hit the bolt with a hammer for removal.

Sounds like you were bugged.

I was. I went to insect it.....I mean.... inspect it and found the remains. I did as above. Removed the lever and did some cleaning. After you make sure the little micro switch is working well, then you can trace the problem to something else if that doesn't remove the problem.

the micro switches are fragile and can fail internally without any real warning.
Are you using stock levers or aftermarket ones....the pivot on some aftermarket ones is slightly off and can give weird switch behaviour.
