All Stampede attendees, please be aware that there is a SAFE in your room.

USE IT!

The reason:

I just finished a long weekend (11 Jun - 14 Jun) in Reno and we stayed at the Peppermill. The "renovated" rooms are about the same as the non-renovated rooms just with gold paint but overall the experience was good.

The pool area is AWESOME and the fitness room is top-notch. (no pics)

I had no problems with the hotel or their service checking in. Everything went according to plan. Saturday morning I left the room at 0730 to go fly fishing (yes it was awesome) on the Truckee River

We had just packed our equipment to leave when it started raining. The only time it rained while in Reno.

I then came back to the room about 1530 and took a 2 hr nap. Then we went out to go clubbing (no pics) and returned at 0330 Sunday. I woke up Sunday morning around 0900 and found this on my desk.

It took about 20 minutes for us to agree on our deciphering of what the note says but we think it's, "Thanks for getting me out in the rain for nothing. You should have cancelled"

Well, suffice it to say, I did not call an escort nor did my buddies. I was staying in the room alone and had only 1 key made and I had it at all times.

With my friends urging, I called hotel security. It took them an hour to get to me and only after I threatened them with writing horrible reviews on Yelp did they come up to get a statement from me. I let them know that someone was in my room and I wanted to know who. Thank goodness I used the safe because my credit cards and computer were in there. Camera was with me at the river.

The security manager had the audacity to ask me if I had been at any "gentlemen's clubs" and maybe I picked it up there. I about exploded. If I say I found this on the desk in my room, I found it on the desk.

They are going to do an investigation and want ME to call THEM in 4 days to find out the results. They won't even bother to call me back?!? He even went on to say, "We'll see if you let a woman in there". Ok dude, I'm calling your general manager and I got your name. I'm not happy with this security guy at all.

So that's my warning of the week. Use your safe everyone. The Peppermill is a nice resort, but they are letting people into rooms when they shouldn't be.

Wow. Kind of Scary/Crazy.

Like Bogus said.....they have to have it on tape.:rulez:

Re: Stampede Attendees BEWARE @ PEPPERMILL

I am in communication with the Peppermill on this matter.

Thanks, Don.

Re: Stampede Attendees BEWARE @ PEPPERMILL

The guy it was meant for probably occupied the room before you and she gave it to one of the cleaning crew to put in there. Now if this happened while you were taking a nap, and someone came in your room with the door dead bolted, I would be concerned.
The guy was probably one of her regulars. Reno and Vegas are different worlds.

Hmmm...sounds like a inside job...wouldn't think that security @ the Peppermill would be that bad.

yeah, like others have said everything in there is on camera. And if it was an inside job with security, my guess is that something happened inside with security as part of the deal

seriously though, from someone that logs more than 250 nights a year in hotels... regardless of the chain/location you should *ALWAYS* lock anything valuable up when leaving it in the room. Random hookers aside, hotel maintenance, cleaning, management can and often do enter rooms randomly throughout the day for any number of things.

The room looked nice though

Re: Stampede Attendees BEWARE @ PEPPERMILL

I checked into the hotel on Thursday afternoon and this happened on Saturday night. She definitely had the wrong room. What I want to know is how she got into it. The note mentions rain and it only rained while I was out fishing. So that helps me narrow down the time. It also matches the timing of when I found the card.

While I'm here typing, I also want to say I am not trying to scare anyone from the Peppermill. It is a seriously nice hotel and this is the only bad experience I've ever had with them. I've stayed there many times both with friends and with my wife. I already have my reservations for the stampede and intend to stay there again. (BTW, across the street is Ruby River, an AWESOME steak house). Within stumbling distance.

I am supposed to call security on Thursday to see what their "investigation" found. I'll update everyone when I know more. Looking forward to seeing all Stampeders in July!

Re: Stampede Attendees BEWARE @ PEPPERMILL

I'm very curious as to the outcome of this incident. Rest assured attendees, this is totally out of character for a classy hotel like the Peppermill. In fact, I'd say the Peppermill is one of the best hotel/restaurant/casinos in Reno.

+1 on the housekeeping-if she's a pro, the staff prolly know her n tossed it in there after taking down the wrong room number to put it in:poke:

either way-they can see who was in your room whenever they went in-pretty sure those 'keys' leave a time-stamp when they unlock the door too.
good luck with the investigation:thumbsup:

Re: Stampede Attendees BEWARE @ PEPPERMILL

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE (can a mod modify the title to reflect this is updated?)

I just spoke to Dean Hill of the Peppermill security staff. They interrogated the lock and only saw me going into the room during the questionable hours. So then they checked the video and saw a woman coming down the hallway at 1205 and stopping at my door for about 5 minutes. They saw her bending down (like to put something under the door) but could not see detail. They could see that she never entered the room. Whew!

The current theory is that she put a card under the door and the maid saw it and moved it to the desk. I can live with this explanation and I'm happy to know that no one else was in my room except the cleaning staff.

Thanks to the Peppermill security for taking the time to review the video and prove that I was telling the truth. So, let's get ready for the Stampede! (and still use your safe  )

Re: Stampede Attendees BEWARE @ PEPPERMILL

Thank you for clarifying that for everyone, Don.

A timely reassurance, indeed. :beerchug:
