SprotVue mod

I got my SportVue installed today.

The kit came with some wire tap connetors, but I soldered them into the factory wiring to keep it stealthy.

Here the setup.

I ran all of my wires thruogh conduit to keep it really clean.

First I wired in the MSU (Sending unit) and mounted it in my trunk on the right side behind the tool bag holder. The controller on the back of the trunk is for my UFO tail light.

I ran power and a fuse to the MSU. I used a water proof fuse holder (not included) to run the MSU and UFO tailight.

Here's the right side wiring. I have the wires for the SportVue, Scorpio i500 Alarm, Escort X50 8500 Radar, and UFO Tailight in the conduit in this pic.

Here's the wire for the tach connection (the GREEN one):

Then I put the speed sensor on the wheel.  The Hayabusa speed sensor runs 12V DC.  The SportVue runs on 5V DC, so the Hayabusa speed sensor can't be used for the speed sensor on the HUD.  It will need to be converted from 12V to 5V (I'll work on that this weekend).

Be carefull how close you mount the wheel magnet to the brake caliper. I will break the magnet if it hits. Mount it about 3/4 in away from the brake surface. Check it for free spin (slowly) and binding with the magnet before you set the epoxy.

I ran the wire from the speed sensor up the bottom on the swing-arm support to keep it low-key, but I left some slack for swingarm travel.

I needed to trim the visor mount to fit with my visor vent.

The vents clears it and the visor opens without a problem.

Nice clean job TrueWrecks..

Thanks for posting all the details..

Please keep us informed on how the day to day use of it is.

I think my biggest concern at the moment for the setup is the speed sensor magnet.

I am not so much worried about it coming off alone, but I am worried about if you are doing 170mph and it comes off that could be one heck of a projectile. I mean the chances are it would hit something on the bike defusing its flight characteristics and speed. But you never know.

Weird stuff happens as you know when actually riding.

I made a plate relocator, and it looks good but I went on a ride with someone behind him and said while I was riding it was vibrating really fast.

When I looked at it closely it looked as though there might be small cracks at the bend where it was vibrating..

Also, not sure how fast you go, but if you do take the bike into the upper ranges I would be curious on how the hud stands up to the wind forces.

I have a double bubble wind screen, and I know when I have pegged my speedo out and raised my head above the wind screen it feels like by head is going to rip off (well almost, but you get my drift.)

It looks pretty aerodynamic and flows with the helmet pretty well, but would still like to hear how it stands up against high wind.

Since you seem to live close and have personal contact with the company, do you know if they are planning on attempting to make the unit smaller?

And are they planning on future models to incorporate the rest of the instrument panel into the hud? Ninja Eater said something about wanting all the gauges in one place, was he referring to his gauges for his turbo?

Anyway, nice job and glad to see you got it in and it is almost finished. Looking forward to hearing your feed back.

The magnet is a light weight ceramic type. I put the epoxy between and around the base. I held it firm with a wood clamp for about 10 min. to make sure it set firmly.

I'll be giving feedback to Motion Research about any findings or ideas to improve the unit (a smaller HUD is one of them).

The first ride with it is today. I'll post a review at the end of this week.
