Some pics from Fort Moultrie which right across the bay from Fort Sumter. This fort was used during the Revolutionary War, Civil War & some of it was modernized for WWII. One fact that I thought was interesting was that this fort fought off 11 British warships & 1,500 troops for almost 2 years and was never taken.
Front entrance.....notice that most of the fort is actually built underground for protection from artillary/cannon balls.
Of course Old Glory still waves at the top of the retired fort.....kinda made me a little emotional to think about how many men died here to protect our freedom from the Brits. I'm sure all the military guys here can relate.
Some of the more modern artillary facing the bay....
Hope everyone enjoys the pics.....I highly recommend anyone passing by to check out Charleston, South Carolina. Especially if you love historical buildings, the place is loaded with them.
