So this cop pegs me through his windshield..

I'm riding down a two lane highway and this cop gets me with radar through his windshield. He flashes his lights. I stop. He turns around and turns out to be a decent sort. Could have been 85 in 50 but he reduced it to 65 in a 50. Cost me $75. If he had written for 66 in a fifty the points would have changed from 3 to 4, and the ticket would have been $275. So, I'm not *****ing. <-- I don't know what the asterisks are for. I think the word was crying or griping.

What I want to know is if any radar detector would have warned me of an oncoming cop who hasn't scanned anyone for 10 miles except me. Or is that one of those situation where your toast no matter what?

Also, can the main unit be mounted between the forks and on top of the fender, kind of back so it isn't obvious and still work? As a rule, cops will always write tickets if they see a radar detector. Since they pull up behind you, the odds of them seeing a unit mounted that way would be minimal. I'm wanting to use a helmet mounted remote that flashes in my helmet.:eyes:

Instant on radar and you are toast.
Now if you have a jammer....

Yep. The only way you'll be warned of instant on radar is if the cop is scanning cars at a distance sufficient for you to be warned and slow down. If you are the first you are toast. Nothings perfect, but I would think it would increase my odds considerably.

get a Jammer and a Radar Absorbant Bra for the front of Bike..........car & driver magazine had the Bra company with its Corvette they use in their promo.....

I have the unusual position of being a retired copper, fully radar trained and 10 years of traffic enforcement with radar....and, currently a Hayabusa rider! Some will say, "detectors don't help, they're useless, etc.". I will say that my Beltronics 965 (mounted under my tinted Puig screen) has warned me DOZENS of times BEFORE a black and white unit appears (or is parked monitoring traffic as I ride by).
I think my success is because of a few things on my part....1st, I shut down RIGHT NOW when I get an alarm 2nd, I often stay behind a car that wants to average about 5 mph faster than my cruising speed (lead offender gets ticket). 3rd, I only use "top of the line" units because they get fewer false readings (the more false readings breeds complacency in the user).
A good detector pays for itself WITH ONE ALARM that facilitates you avoiding a ticket!

Not to thread jack but I've got a question, I just got a speeding award in my truck (trailering a Busa, ya I know, ha ha:rofl:). Anyhow the CHP is sitting on the shoulder of the highway facing same way as direction of traffic so I'm curious... Is he actually turning around holding a radar devise or is the car equipped with radar to aim towards different directions? just kinda curious, anyone?

You are VERY lucky...read my story from this past week Post titled "How Do I Win This"...my pre-trial starts friday...Lucky Dog...

Raydog has it right with that line. I rode and drove with radar detectors for years. Saved my butt many times. Didn't save my butt enough times that I eventually learned from my stupidity and changed my driving habits. Sure, I still test the limits, but I don't always have to be the first or the fastest one. In fact, I don't ever want to be the first or the fastest one. It's been years since I had a speeding ticket.

Good points. A radar detector can't help you if you're the only one out on the road. If there are no other cars out in front of you that a cop can use a radar on, you're next up. And there is no warning at all.

As mentioned, you have to shut it down right away when it goes off.

You still have to ride/drive smart if you have a radar detector.

Nope, they have units mounted in the rear also!

I use a radar detector with a heads up display in my helmet. Works great and it saves me most of the time. I use the Escort X-50 radar unit with a H.A.R.D. setup in my helmet. It has paid for itself many times over!

It's allready Paid for itself. Get the Earphones and Hard Wire them Also. That way you instantly know there is a Cop Around
