Sinus Surgery??!! Anyone had it done?

I need some advice. I have had chronic/miserable sinus/both ear/ and upper respiratory infections for MONTHS now! I won't go into the whole treatment history because the number of antibiotics and such is long. But some of the antibiotics I have been on should have killed most of anything. And then others I was on for four week periods have been double strength twice a day. Not to mention 60 mg of prednisone or other high doses of deximethisone to help with the pressure and drainage.

There are other things being given, such as Rx cough syrups, mucinex, decongestants, allergy treatments, inhalers, you name it. I am going in next week for CT scan of head, sinus, and ears plus MRI of head and neck (all the neck & throat lymph nodes are majorly involved).

My main question is:
The physicians & specialists are talking more and more abour sinus surgery. I hear really good things about the procedure and some "well it sometimes doesn't really help" stuff. Plus I hear the recovery isn't easy. Plus my boss (whom I have nicknamed Satan would die if I asked for time off for surgery.)

Has anyone out there experience this or gone through this?

I am getting desperate!! The infections & PRESSURE in my head and ears has gone on for months is killing me! The pressure headaces are more intense than I can describe. I need relief, but not at the expense of surgery that won't really help. (they put a laser guided endoscope up your nose into your sinuse cavities and do gross things while looking through some sort of imaging system, then deal with the ear canals, possibly inserting tubes.)

Please help if you have any info. :please: :please: :please:

Thanks.

I had a sinus Roto-Router surgery about 3 years ago. The right side of my nasal passage was almost completely blocked because my septum was broken in two places. The septum was fixed, and I had turbuline reduction at the same time. Recovery wasn't too bad. I haven't had a sinus infection since. Breathing is so much easier now. I would do it again if I had to.

Feel free to PM me about the gory details if you want more.

Had rhinoplasti or how ever the heck that's spelled about eight years ago. Had a severly deviated septum and azz load of pollets ( again with the spelling ) Recovery was next day, day surgery, and the results were tremendous. Ran dogs about two days after surgery could really breath easy. Lately I've been feeling a little sinus pressure, but it's been eight years.

WoW! That is good to hear!

My mom was telling me over to Thanksgiving (finally after me suffering for months with this), that she has sinus/nasal surgery about five years I was born (I am 31).

I was just really scared of of the whole scope ALL THE WAY up the nose issue and drainage tubes in the ears, but the blogs (2008 only) I have read on the internet have all been positive. I have been living in this misery since APRIL! The pressure and constant infection is not only painful from the head pressure, but I stay so run down I need some relief!

Thanks again! You will prob be getting some PM's, especially after the results of the scans are in. THANKS!

My boss's ex wife had it done over the spring. She was always having sinus problems, now so far this year nothing so i guess it works. I know if mine don't give in sometime soon i gotta get a job done myself.

My wife had sinus problems for years, She finally had Surgery done, Fixed a deviated septum and cleaned out those sinus cavities at the same time.

She very very rarely has problems with her sinuses any more and can actually breath through her nose. Very rarely snores anymore.

Recovery seemed a little rough, I was just a bystander / waiter / slave, But she made it through it.

If you need any more info let me know and I will get her to PM you the specifics, but all in all seems like it was a good thing.

I had sinus bad, GOT off dairy and all went away and never came back.. Havent had a cold in 5-6-7? years.. get off milk before surgery, see what happens..jmo

I know 3 people that had it done, a disaster for all of them.
I dated a pretty girl that had it done, she was pretty, good in the sack, but I got tired of hearing her breath through her mouth all of the time.

had it done twice, could probably tell you anything you want to know about it just hit me up. proper recovery is the key. no blowing your nose, irrigation and going back to get vacuumed out and scabs removed is the tough part. you won`t remember the surgery !!

+1 to Supergank1. Irrigation and doing exactly what the doctor says is where most people fail. It isn't fun doing everything you need to during recovery, but it's very important. Almost everyone I have ever met that had a bad result was because they got tired of flushing out their sinuses with saline a couple of times a day. It gets old really fast, but it's necessary for proper healing.

I had it done almost 10 years ago. I had sinus infections almost every month, and taking all the antibiotics wasn't doing me any good, either. I think i'm down to one a year (maybe) since. It was the right thing to do in my case. Good luck!

Do it. I had a 10 year low level infection. Ear aches, sinus infection, pain beyond discription. The surgery will make a huge difference. Yes, I saline at least once a day. So what!... I like it.
My opinion.

I guess I've been lucky in that area.
Good luck Kristin, I hope you find relief!

Do this and try a NETTY/neti kettle to self cleanse...
Wish I would have known this as a kid before having to severe sinus infections and a permanent scar..

amen to that...had horrible sinus infection when I was young and had to have surgery at 13years old-yeah, I was a tru-to-life "snotty Scotty":poke: it sukd b@llz.
even with all the allergy issues, the surgery helped me immensely-because I had my mom the RN over my friggin shoulder making me shove a water-pik up my snout 3 times a day for months. if you dont take care of the raw sensitive tissue, you'll f**k your nose up worse than before you had the surgery.

buy a few good humidifiers w/anti-bac. filters, get your vents blown clean n add UV filtering if you can, and if u dont have CA get a few good air purifiers *find ones w/easy to clean or replace filters* (air ionizer is good but not AS good as purifier) that stuff will make your life at home much easier...dont ask me how to deal with the rest of the world-I wear a Darth Vader helmet, but I also like the way it makes my voice sound:moon:

i have heard both good and bad things about surgery for the nasal septum. hopefully your ct and mri will have good news for you.

good luck

if it were me i would only go under the knife as a last resort but keep in mind that noone knows your pain and discomfort like u

No but I need to real bad... I have lost 75 to 80% of my sense of smell due to sinus infections in the past.. Please keep me posted on this. I want ot know if it works for you..

Before I went under the knife I had 3 major sinus infections in one year. I couldn't breathe through my nose if I was laying on my side. It was well worth it for me.
