I have a 99 Hayabusa and I love it. While it's only been rare that my speedo has been a little over 185 MPH, it's still nice having the original 220 MPH speedo. It's a bike well deserving of a 220 MPH speedo, not a 185 MPH speedo.
As I recollect, the 2001 and newer Hayabusas are the speedos that stop at 185 MPH (sucks not having a speedo that can keep up with your performance mods).
On the other hand, owning a new Hayabusa verses a 7 year old Hayabusa is hardly reason to worry about the speedo's MPH limitation.
2002 and newer Hayabusa have the upgraded 32-bit ECMs whereas the earlier model Hayabusas were only 16-bit ECMs. Likewise, a number of issues were resolved with 2002 and newer Hayabusas. I'd cast my vote for a new Hayabusa rather than the old with its many years of questionable use and mileage.
Since I purchased my 99 Hayabusa new and have maintained it like new (as well as not beat the tar out of it), I'd never think of selling it.
