We lost a hero yesterday. Russ Collins died of complications from chemo therapy while on vacation in Hawaii.

The man who brought us the first 4 into 1 exhaust on a motorcycle, the first supercharged CB750, the first successful 4 cylinder dragbikes, the first 7 second dragbike, the first 199.9 mph dragbike as well as a ton of innovations has left this earth. Without him his two employees, Byron Hines and Terry Vance would never have met and left RC Engineering to form Vance and Hines.

Godspeed Russ.

I got to meet Russ twice in the 70's, he was definitely a leader in drag racing. He was someone I idolized in my early years. I got to see the triple run at a near by track where he made three runs against great, T.C. Christsenson and his Norton 'Hogslayer'. I saw the double at a car show which is where I met him the second time. He will be missed.

A true innovator and one of the great personalities of motorcycling.
He was on the forefront of fuel injection service and development.
He will be missed.

If memory serves me correct, I saw him race at the old Lakeland International Raceway outside of Memphis, TN in the early '70s.....
