Tonight after I had dinner I decided to just ride around town for fun and also to pick up some smokes...
Rode around for about 40 minutes or so and went downtown...
While riding downtown I was on "main street" and riding pretty sane and within the speed limit because so many cars were on this road. The sun had almost set and most cars had their lights on. This road has 3 lanes on each side with a hude grass median and stoplights are present every other block or so.
While riding in the right hand lane I look into my left mirror and see this car RIGHT ON MY A$$... and I mean right on it! His lights were off. I was pretty pissed and looked over at him as he pulled beside me and gunned the gas and he passed me (almost hitting the rear bumper of the car ahead of him) and cut in front of me in my lane. I was steaming! So the next light turns red and I pull right up behind him and stop. I relaxed and said "ok". But I looked in his side mirror and saw the driver and his buddy laughing. Ok, that did it for me! I was pissed. And what made me so mad is that these idiots in their cars aren't even thinking about who they could be hurting by their stupidity! So... I "lane split" and got right up next to the driver side window and just started laying into those two fools! I was cussing everything you can think of, so imagine that.... and the driver leaned away back towards his passenger. Well, the light turned green and I kicked the dude's door. They just sped off and cut more people off as they wanted to get as far away from me as possible. I wanted to chase them but didn't. Besides, they're in a car and I'm on a bike (alone) and nothing would have been accomplished by doing so.
Maybe that idiot will think twice next time about trying to tailgate a cycle rider in heavy traffic... who knows? He was some redneck punk in silver Civic. I doubt he'll change. I hope I left a dent on his door, but I doubt I did because I didn't really get a very good kick at it.
What I did wasn't the smartest thing... but it sure felt right at the time and I think it needed to be done.
