what would cause my rear brake to squeel?

the pads are relatively new (about 500mi), I took the pads off and one pad had some pieces of shiny stuff that looked like metal flake. (half of a pencil eraser size)

I took a flat file and ground that stuff off but I can't seem to rid it of the squeel. It squeels loud when braking but does not do it otherwise.

Did you copper-grease the backs of the pads when you put on the new ones. Greasing the back of the pads should eliminate squealing.

I'm assuming the metal flakes are just the normal flecks you see in EBC pads.

I always forget the copper grease.

(Big Wall @ Apr. 10 2007,00:24) Maybe spray some brake cleaner on them as well.
cleaned em up with brake cleaner and still the same thing! arg this is annoying.

it all started when I let my dad ride my bike and he did a couple 150+ passes and braked hard after.... wonder if its a problem with the rotor....... the rotor looks fine!
