Starting to do more research on radar detectors. Specifically for the bike, but general knowledge all around. Know that BEL and Escort are still near the top as far as reviews go, but wanted to see if anything had creeped up. Came across this little gem, the Whistler Cruisader, built just for motorcycles. The main unit can be mounted out of sight and has a display on top and a helmet display unit. Looks like RadarBusters.com rates it pretty well, so I may be giving it a shot here shortly. Anyone have any thoughts on it. Here's the
RadarBusters article and what
Whistler says about it.
Thank-you Thank-you Thank-you
I tried pointing this detector out in Feb. not much of a response. Here is a cut and paste of the post I made in Feb:
"I know, I know people are going to say you have to have a escort or a valentine; however, my wife worked for this company for 5 years before moving to the Walmart home office. To be honest if the V1 and escort owners would admit it, there is very little difference in detection range among the top 4 or 5 detector companies; V1, Cobra, Escort, Whistler, Bel.
If you will go to
www.radartest.com, they are an unbiased site that does reviews of all the major detectors. Yes, the V1 and the Escort do detect a little further away, but given that the radar cone at 1000' is ~ the width of 4 lanes of traffic, (cops can't pick single cars out of groups at that range) is it worth the substantial increase in price for the V1 and the Escort since they detect at little further away. Not in my opinion. If memory serves all of them detect at 3/4 of a mile or more. I would rather spend the extra $$ on a different mod. Not to mention the Whistler is made for a bike, IE weather proof.
Just my $.02"
I will get flamed for this, but the V1 has some STUPID features. 1) Bogey counter, who cares how many time you have gotten hit with radar. 2) Detection from the side, again, who cares. Radar works on the Dopler effect so from the side LEO can't get your speed anyway.
JMHO............. again
