RADAR DETECTORS

I've got to have a radar detector on the busa. All my vehicles have one. Since this is the fastest and i enjoy it more than my first opel cadet, what do you guys suggest? I took the whistler out of the yugo and put it on the busa, it look good on the front brake reservoir, i've seen this on one post. I'm looking at the BEL EXPRESS 946 its an upgrade from the 945i. Need all suggestions please...

I just bought a Valentine 1 with the accessory sound module so i can hear the damn thing over 65 MPH. I have it mounted on a stem stand and hard wired to the battery. I can say no problems with this detector yet........Jcchen im surprised that you were not treated better by valentine as word of mouth can be a companies worst enemy or best ally.

Hi ECS33,
The Valentine-1 radar detector with the remote visual and the remote audio units are great. Use a Saeng stem mount for the detector and so far so good. Wish they made a dual unit and one that is less sensitive to voltage variations, other than that it has served it's purpose on more than one occasion.
There is an audio unit that is coming out soon from highpwr that you might be interested in, it should work with most detectors on the market today. Hope this helps you.

Okay, I gotta ask.......where did Hooshy Bushy come from???????

Hey Roberto, How are you brother? Sorry to hear about your mishap with the car. Anything I can do to help (no you can't borrow my bike) ;')

Valentine 1 permanently mounted inside fairing above right side ram air tube. I built a bracket from strap alumnium and fasten to it with combination of velcro between V1 and air tube and cable tie around V1 and the bracket. It "sees" through the plastic just above the turn indicator housing. Works great. Indicates front, side and rear signals. Valentine said unit sees through plastic with no problem, but warned that it must be mounted horizontally.

Wired to the taillight wire with a T-tap and no voltage problems since I did that. Key turns it on and off. Remote power unit and remote audio unit are in the storage area under the passenger seat. Never have to touch them.

The remote visual unit is heavy-duty velcroed into the dip on top of the instrument panel and now that I have a Zero Gravity sport touring windscreen, it's always visible.

A mini-jack audio extension cord leads under rider seat and exits from front edge, against the tank bra so no scratches. A Radio Shack earphone tucked under the padding of my Arai helmet puts the audio right where I need it.

All that and hardly ever speeding have kept me ticket-free so far. Er, maybe there's been a lot of good luck in that equation, too.

Escort - works well and the latest unit will track multiple radar signals. Also backed by a reputable company. Can't say the same for Valentine.

While V1 may be a good detector, the company's customer service sucks. The detector is VERY sensitive to voltage irregularities that are COMMON on all bikes and cars resulting in false signals. Valentine never said anything about this problem and I ended up sending my BRAND NEW unit back for service. It was allegedly "repaired" but when the problem continued, I sent the BRAND NEW unit back for a refund (what good is a detector that keeps going off for no reason?). Valentine then gave me some bullsh_t crap about a $60 "restocking" fee despite the fact there is no mention of such a fee on their website OR in their owner's manual. Besides, would you put up with a "restocking" fee for a worthless unit? Furthermore, their customer rep AND his manager were rude and abusive. I had to go through my credit card company to finally resolve this. So if you like false signals and a company that has no problem SCREWING you if there's a problem, get a V1.

Valentine is the best detector on the market bar none. (Designed by the person who designed the original Escort in the late 70's) You can mount it with either the Saeng Stand or you can use The Stem Stand. there is info on either stand on several previous threads.

You can see a prototype installation of my enhanced audio radar accessory at:
http://quickstand.home.netcom.com/radar.htm

This accessory uses the warning signal from your detector to drive a high intensity piezo beeper via a special interface module. This makes it much easier to hear your radar warning without you being wired to the bike. No earphone or helmet speakers necessary.
Check it out & let me know what you think.

just bought a valentine1 with the remote audio adapter. hooked it to my chatterbox multisport. awesome,,, also use in the car.
can i depend on those suction cups on the double bubble?

I dumped my Bel because it just didn't give me enough warning. Had a battery powered one that was worse. Escort gave me so many false alarms it drove me nuts. Have had my V-1 for 3 years now and It's so much better it's not even close. Saved me over and over.

Wire it direct to the battery with an extra inline fuse and there is no problem with voltage fluctuations.Ever.

Comparing any other detector to the V-1 is like comparing a Honda 50 to the Hayabusa. No comparison on performance, but you need to use your head.

"Where did Hooshy Bushy come from?"

I came from the land of Kawasaki. I'm suffering from multiple personalities such as "Kaw9R" & "Bus13R".

Basically though I'm just pissed at the world because it's been raining for the past week and I've only got 250mi on the Busa.

Re-reading my earlier post I don't think I made something clear...the Bel 945iM (and similar) is a piece of junk.

I've got a 945iM (motorcycle version)

Pros:
-Fits in pocket
-Has earphone
-Cordless
-Better than nothing

Cons:
-Buttons get pushed accidentally when in pocket, sometime cutting the unit off unknowingly.
-Range is terrible because it is in your pocket and battery powered.

Recommendation:
I'm looking into a 12V powered, mountable system with an output for a speaker. There will be such a system released soon incorporating just this for $285. I've emailed the guy making this and he's hoping to start production soon.

...Richard, do you realy trust those suction cups? What happens if it comes off...likely in a fast bumpy turn as not, no? I want to mount it there but didn't trust the mount, (although it has not fallen off in the car since 3-10)...thinking of going with "visor" mount as suggested by Phantom on labusas.org...slightly more than just cliping it on, but I was still wrryed about knocking it off into the top clamp in a tuff moment...I'm strongly considering bolting a mount right to the wind screen in an optimal location...does the mass of the V1 shke the wind screen around ?

I used the supplied suction cups from Valentine until my stem stand was shipped to me but all I could think of while riding was my $400 + radar detector falling off the bubble and dangling by the wire.....I decided the stem stand was well worth the $42. It crafted well. Email FRQFLYRX@aol.com for info.

Hooshy Bushy, the 815 did not have an audio output until I modified it. Attached (soldered) two wires to the beeper leads inside the control panel. The two wires exit the control panel housing on the back side.

I had to wire my VAL one direct to the battery to solve the low voltage fluctuation problem. Works great.

I have it suction-cupped under the Double Bubble, very secure, no falling off.

At top volume I can hear it at most speeds. Wearing foam ear plugs, ironically, allows me to hear it better by cutting out much wind-rush sound.

highpwr, how do you like the 815? Good range? Resonable false alarms? What do you to compare it to? I've got a 980 for the car and it's range is very good, with resonable false alarms.

Hooshy Bushy, I've only had the 815 on the bike since last August so have not had a lot of on the road experience. It appears to be sensitive to input voltage just like the V1 but this is just a guess on my part. Might try a more direct wiring route to the battery.

Sensitivity seems to be average to above average. It's picked up oncomming moving radar at some impressive distances but this is kind of an easy test for any reasonable detector.

It saved my butt a few weeks ago on the interstate when I got jumped from behind by moving State PD. Signal was very strong and increasing and I had turned down the wick but still could not see anything out front. Checked my mirror only to see him sucking up to the guy on the bike behind me. My backing off on the throttle had saved us both. Had I had a V1 this situation would have been a lot easier to understand and most likely would have reacted sooner. Later on I found out that the guy on the bike behind me never heard his detector go off.

I've been told that the 815 remote is not representative of the latest designs that Bel offers. Supposedly some of the window mount detectors have more advanced circuits/capability.
