Radar detectors

just got Escort 8500 X50, and was wondering how people are powering theres. are you hard wiring it in or installing an outlet.

Also how are you installing it, on the windshield or what?

I believe people hard wire them to their battery.

Yes use the hard wire kit. Only problem is it is always on, but then again u never leave detector on bike long anyway.

I just ordered the hard wire kit for the detector and a stem stand to hold it

I wanted to power mine from the ignition fuse so it would turn off and on with the ignition.  But I couldn't find an open terminal so marked in the fuse panel, so I just wired it direct to the battery. I have the detector mounted to the top of the instrument cluster with Velcro - I can't get the suction cup holder to stay on my car's flat windshield for very long, so I can't imagine one staying on a sharply curved bike screen with all the jarring and vibration present.

I recently read a post on one of the Hayabusa sites that outlined how to wire an accessory like a detector to a lamp harness in the fairing so it is powered by the ignition.  Next time I have my inner panels off, I intend to do that (if I can find that post, of course).
