Radar detectors Debate??!

i have been contemplating getting one and really need to just pull the trigger. I leave my sub division and i am doing 50 in a 25 without even thinking about it!

but here is where it gets goofy, i like the adaptive but at 300 plus 50 for the wireless plus the 70 for the mount it is kinda pricey. i was on ebay and came across this Whistler Cruisader Motorcycle Rdr Det. w/ FREE DISPLAY - eBay (item 360230196085 end time Feb-04-10 08:57:16 PST) looks okay but there may be a mounting issue.

anyone have any ideas? i do have a battery operated passport s4 that i love but it would be almost useless on the busa as i would not be able to hear or see it well.

Thoughts? what are your set ups? pics?

The mount for the "Whistler" can be bought from "Tiger Racing" since it's a standard gauge size. I believe there's a headphone jack on the Passport S4. Just run Helmet earphones in your helmet and plug em into the detector if that's the case. Hope that helps.

50 in a 25 is reason to apply a little self control not get a radar detector. Save the speed for the open road not the sub-division.

first off listen to Dino.. ^^^^^
Second I never leave home without mine.. 8500 x50 with screamer It can be heard no at speeds with no problem..
The Adaptive decent unit and motorcycle friendly ie h2o proof..
Whistler Cruisader = junk I had one and threw it in the garbage..

screamer link... Radar Screamer

If you READ to COMPREHEND you will clearly see that i said "I leave my sub division and i am doing 50 in a 25" not "IN" my subdivision. As i am clearly out of it and away from pedertrians and homes there is a 3 mile strech that is a country type road that goes to the main roads that is posted 25.

So thank you for the self control lecture:banghead:, but not what I asked for or needed, to everyone else thanks for the constructive input. I have been in contact with tim and i will get something orderd.

Pwned. Lol.

Post up what you get. I've been interested in this last time I was home got pulled over 3 times.

+1 on the 8500  I had one in my truck and it saved me a few times. Better than any other detector I have had experience with.

I have had them before but always found when using them I let my own guard down.
My so called 'Spidey senses' stopped tingling.
What happens if you have it on and Mickey Metro is just sitting there with nothing on ?
You will have radar detector on thinking your cool and go flying by him....possibly.
Of course I cant see as far as it can but like I said with it on I kinda relied on it to go off whenever a cop was near and that always isnt the case as not all have radar on.

ps....50 in a 25 reminds me of Greenwich CT where almost all the roads were 35 or 25 and this kid at 13 on his RZ350 just could not go slower than 70...
Some bikes just wont run at 25...kinda like a plane. You get a stall and can crash....

Cobra maybe? I had a Whistler... paid $170.00 at Best Buy for it brand new. Worked for me.

good luck with that.

I'll try to get a pic of my setup later.

I run an Escort 8500 on a tech mount-dual pad stem mount. The other half of the mount holds my iPod. Then sound is routed from both the iPod and the Escort to a switcher. The switcher gives a constant feed from the Escort and gives a feed from the iPod as long as there is no signal from the Escort. In other words I hear music then if I get a radar signal the music stops and all I hear is my Escort screaming. From my switcher the sound is routed into my helmet via a set of Thumper helmet speakers/headphones.

So when I get on/off the bike I have a single headphone jack to plug/unplug.

Works great. My spidey sense is going constant anyways, I've had Radar detectors since I was 16. So I figure might as well have one on my Rocket too.

Oh and as a sidenote. If you want to go wireless and not have a plug, make sure you doing it with an FM modulator and Radio headset. If you use a stereo to bluetooth dongle there is a very slight delay with even the best ones I've used. For my iPod thats fine, not good for radar detection though.

Now there may be some better/faster adapters out there now, but as of two months ago; none suited me.

Good luck and safe riding.
