Radar dectectors

This is probably the wrong forum for this but I thought I might get more responses. My question is Do nice 300 dollar radar dectectors realy save your ass most the time? Im thinking of buying one but dont really trust all the hype from store sales people and advertisments. Im thinking of the baseline escort model which has like a 3 mile range for laser and rader. I have never owned one before so I dont really know what is worth the money. I live in a region where there is a lot of long stright flat roads(Valley) and the nearby town is very small so I dont think the departments would have the best speed gun gear in their cruisers. I already received a ticket earlier this year on a long straight road passing an oncoming sheriff. The car was too far off to realize it was a sheriff before it was too late. 78 in a 55, stupid I know, Thats like low speed cruisen on my busa. It seems like perfect territory for a dectector to work; so do they work?

Valentine1 and NOTHING else! You can even mount it remote under the fairing and use the remote pickups with a separate display. By far the ONLY radar detector used by ALL Cannonballers this year in the Car & Driver One Lap of America event.

Yes they work! I am quite happy with the Escort X50. Would recommend the HARD heads up display.

Check out radarbusters.com for info and accessories.

Passport Escort X50 +2
7 years and not one ticket....... Plenty of warning!
Group buy going on as we speak, can pick one up delivered to your door for roughly $245. Try doing that with a V1

V1 and Passport Escort set the standards IMOP for radar detectors.....
You can't go wrong with either of these.

I have both V1 and Pasport X50... X 50 Is the winner by big margin in my personal opinion. if you want less false alerts go with it. waterbug put unbeatable group buy together for the members.

My Escort Passport 8500 X50 works amazingly well. Mine is on the Techmount stem stand mentioned earlier.

As an aside, if it's legal where you're from, I recommend the laser jammer kit sold on www.radarbusters.com. A couple Florida highway patrolmen have been foiled by mine, so it was well worth the investment.

I have a Beltronics STi Driver which is the only detector totally stealth to any detector detector use nowadays (since illegal here in Quebec i had no choice) and it works like a charm...

Signals are very predictible and it barely never picks up false alarms...

I have had the Escort X-50 for several years and I can say it works wonderfully well. I have no experience with the V1 but according to all the write ups, they work basicly the same and both are top notch units. I have mine mounted remotely behind the fairing and the H.A.R.D. system that alerts me to a radar signal. I'd guess it saves me at least once a month from the vultures that pray on motor bikes.

Do you have any pics of the remote install?
