My wife is 29 weeks pregnant
A couple weeks ago, she was diagnosed with a two vessel cord, aka single umbilical artery.

This is associated with low birth weight, heart defects, gastrointestinal tract abnormalities and problems with the central nervous system. The respiratory system, urinary tract, and musculoskeletal system may also be affected. One in five babies affected by SUA will be born with multiple malformations.

Last friday we went in for our regular checkup... She was diagnosed with the flu and her blood pressure was 190/110, she gained 22lb in 7 weeks, and had severe swelling.

They rushed her to Sacred Heart Neonatal Intensive Care Unit , in Pensacola FL friday where they diagnosed her with Severe Progressive Eclampsia . IV's Catheter, heart monitors, baby monitors, shes got tubes and wires everywhere.

Shes being pumped with IV medicines to reduce seizures, thin blood, prevent clots, lower blood pressure, pain medications, and antibiotics for the flu, and liquids. Shes on a clear liquid diet. The medicine makes her weak, nauseous, and causes her to go in these tremor spasms all over. Its heartbreaking to watch.

Doctors said baby is healthy and happy, but my wife is sick. And is only going to get worse. Increasing medicine is the only option and there are side effects. They are going to keep her on monitors and bed rest at the hospital for 2-4 weeks before they do a C-section, unless her condition worsens and they cant control it. The baby is 11 weeks premature and weighs 2 pounds now and would not be able to suck swallow or breathe.

Our parents rushed in from 14 hours away, but could only stay 4 days before risking losing their jobs and health insurance. So they are leaving today. Military is not allowing me emergency or convalescent leave. i have 12 days saved up to last me over the next 2 months and the hospital is 1hr 20 minutes away. i will be traveling to and from 5-6 days a week after work.

After birth the baby will be in intensive care for 2 weeks to 2 months depending on what birth defects she has from the SUA, and my wife will need 2 weeks to recover.

Prayers are needed, and any help getting this truck sold for what i owe, would help relieve some financial strain.

Prayers and best wishes bro....

You should look into "non-medical attendant" temporary duty orders.

Please give me more info to look into something. I dont have much time to research vague leads.

Joint Travel Regs. Part Q Paragraph U7551.

What service are you in? I was Army and the military hospital in conjunction with my BN S-1 took care of it.

I realize this is Louisiana National Guard but the Reference and information might be helpful.

c. Section 706, FY2002 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), eff. 1 April 2002.

2. Title-32 personnel refer to FTNGD (AGR) or FTNGDCD, FTNGDOS, FTNGDMA, FTE, and ADSW

3. This policy describes the travel entitlement for TRICARE Prime/Prime Remote enrolled Title-32 family
members, 17 or younger, when referred by their Primary Care Manager (PCM) to a specialty care provider

patients PCM, is mandatory if a NMA is required for travel for patients 18 or older.
4. The attendant must be a parent, spouse, legal guardian or other adult family member of the patient. If
the attendant is not the parent, he or she must be 21 years of age or older. Title-32 personnel may be
reimbursed if they are approved for travel by their chain of command. Members traveling as an NMA in a
TDY status will be reimbursed mileage and daily per diem rates for the area. Per diem is paid when travel is
for more than 12 hours. A memo requesting NMA travel from the member’s unit is required for
determination of the availability of TDY travel funding and must be submitted with the claim. NMA travel
is not an NGB reimbursable expense and, therefore, will be deducted from the DRU travel accounting line.
When funding is not available or at the discretion of the command, members will be placed in a leave status
and will be reimbursed reasonable travel-related expenses with receipts by the TRICARE Regional Office.
5. TRICARE reimbursement is authorized for “reasonable travel-related expenses” incurred for travel
between the patient’s home address and the location of the specialty appointment. Transportation cost to and
from the patient’s home address and medical specialist is reimbursable. Reasonable travel expenses are the
actual costs incurred by the beneficiary when traveling to their specialty provider-not in an emergency status.
Costs include meals, fuel, lodging, lodging taxes, tolls, parking, and tickets for public transportation.
Receipts for fuel are not mandatory when claiming mileage on reimbursement requests.

FOR THE ADJUTANT GENERAL:

I'm so sorry to hear all of this. Prayers for your wife, child and you.

I'm about an hour and a half from Pensacola, I live in Alabama, let me know if I can be of any help.

I really dont find anything in it, that will help me get time off.
i will just have to wisely pick when i use my 12 days of leave.
I asked could i go on leave tuesday, wed, thursday work and physical training monday and friday. for 2-3 weeks

They said they could grant that only once, they also said i need to give 3 days notice when im off.

So i cant monitor my wifes degrading condition, to make it a point to be there when she needs me the most.

Man, I hope things get better for your family. Prayers sent. I have a friend who's baby was born 2 months early at a whopping 1.5lb. The mother and the baby had a tough time for a while, but due to excellent neonatal care and a few surgeries he just had his 1st birthday and is a happy, healthy baby. I know all the circumstances aren't all the same, but hopefully this story can bring you a little bit of hope in this hard time.

Dino is right. I recommend you immediately go see your unit chaplain and explain the situation. As a special staff officer to the commander, he's got a direct line to the boss, and I know there is a regulatory way to allow you to be with your wife during this trying time.

Hang in there!
