hey guys ' i'm new to the forums. i recently bought a left over 2002 all black busa. i have about 2800 mi. on it . once in a while i hear a popping sound from the chain or rear axle area when i start rolling from a dead stop. it only happens when i take off real easy, not when i take off pretty hot. took to the suzuki dealer that i bought it from, they checked it out & told that they can't find anything wrong. the bike runs sweet other than that. it just bothers the hell out of me when i hear it. any inputs will be appreciated. thanks

Chain adjust (too tight)OR.....
the bolt backed out of the spacer plate that is on the inside of the swingarm by the rear axle

SAME THING ON MY 2003 THE DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS THE CUSHION IN THE FRONT SPROCKET TAKING THE LOAD. SAID NOT TO WORRY.
                        :super:

yep check the chain .... one thing I've learned about new bikes ......also ways double check the mechanics who put it together at the local dealership ;)

this is not a front sprocket cushion issue, there is none. my 99 has been making this noise "clunk" like someone tapping the swingarm with a small hammer. just like a bad chain, mine has only 3700 miles no wheelies, no nasty stuff. i am buying a new chain first, my rr sprocket is perfect, my rr hub cushions are pretty. the noise is just what a bad chain would make but my chain should not be bad, have not adjusteded it more than 1/2 a notch since i bought the bike......suzuki refuses to take any responsibility for anything they can sidestep

Clean and Adjust that chain / My 03 does the same from time to time / havent broke anything yet

Had this problem too. put a new chain and front sproket and the noise went away. I suspect the noise is from the chain rollers having to much room to move in between the teeth, and the noise is from the chain roller trying to climb up the tooth under load or getting slammed into the bottom as load is applied.

Chains are not covered by warranty

'00' BUSA with 30,000. Just starting doing this, I think its the same thing. Popping, clunking, clinkig noise when let the clutch out in 1st gear, and then some more of same noise one, two, three, or four times as I accelerate for 20-35 mph. Above 40mph does not make noise.

Does yours only happen when let clutch out from stop, or do you get some more as you acclereate slowly, in 1st and 2nd gear slowly/

Mine is definitely metal hitting metal noise. This cannot be good. It didn't happen for 30,000 miles. I will not ride till I figure out. If you find something out please let me know.

My '04 does the same thing. Took it to the shop for a day, w/o an appt. He didn't find the prob in the short time he had. I am taking it back this week, he said they would cover it all under warrenty, no matter what. Thier lead mechanic is the only one that works on busa's and he told me that he would find and fix the prob. My red "bird" has only 2200 miles on her. The lead mechanic did mention that he thought it might have something to do with rubber dampners. I will let you know if he nails it down.

My popping sounds occured occasionally until the chain finally broke and busted the cases.. Suzuki did a 50/50 warranty on it so I opted to get the DID replacement chain. The pin in the factory chain just broke.

My 04' does this and i can replicate the noise by grabbing the tire/rear wheel and i apply pressure in a rocking back and forth motion(like when you check the wheel bearings on a car) and it'll make popping noises around the cush drive area and i can see it flexing as if the drive isn't seated, but it is seated.
And now when i install my rear wheel the axle nut tightens down farther, almost an 1/8th more. All my parts are there, installed right and tightened correctly but this bugs me.

One more thing, is there some kind of anticrush spacer that fits between the wheel and the cush drive?, (between the cush drive bearing and the wheel bearing?)

Put my baby in the shop today for the very same thing. I told them to keep it until it is fixed, but I would like to have it back before the weekend. The mech is very good. He said it sounds like the rubber dampners, he rode it and heard the sound. Said he would find it and repair it all under warrenty. The bike only has about 2250 miles on the clock. I will let you guys know what he finds.

Peace

mine did this and i even think it may have caused my premature chain problems i think the front sprocket is skipping insinde the chain and i think it is desighned this way to take strain away from engine any one that has put some heavy tork into a snap-on rachet is familiar with this therory of torqe release (as your rapping bandages around your knuckels) anyway mine quit too when i changed the front sprocket
