I've got a McIntosh aluminum swingarm I want to polish..I'm curious what the best way to do it is that will give a longer lasting finish. I checked out a Youtube video on the subject but was told that method doesn't last long. Thanks...

If it is rather smooth from the get go sand with 1000 grit / 1200....then use a buffing wheel in a die grinder or whatever with the polishing compounds. There is a brown / red / and white compounds that will get it mirror like with a bit of effort. It would be way easier off the bike if that is a possibility. After you are happy with the gloss / finish you can use a rag and some mag / wenol polish to hold off the oxidation.
