Pics and Vids from today's AMA Superbike race in Topeka, KS

GSXcite calls me yesterday afternoon and asks me what I'm doing tomorrow...he's got two tickets to the AMA Tornado Nationals at Heartland Park in Topeka! I accept his gracious offer and take my son, Ashton with me today. We had rain last night, but it cleared off in plenty of time for the races. Unseasonably cool for KS...only about 78º today...great day for racing!

We got to the track...there was a Moto-GT endurance race going on...2 hr race with pit stops and rider swaps... We opted to go check out the garage area and vendors until the start of the Superbike race.




Mat Mladin's bikes. On Friday, he decided that he didn't want to race, so he dropped out. He also announced that he's retiring from AMA racing...

Jason Britton was performing with a couple other guys before the Superbike race

This guy did a stoppie and then turned the bike and set it down to crush a can... Took him 3 or 4 tries, but he got it. Pretty impressive!

Forbes Field is right next-door to the track. During the Stunt Show, I heard the distinct sound of a military jet overhead... Looks like an A10



OK - here we go...they are lined up on the grid, ready for the practice lap

When we left, I stopped at the Kansas National Guard Museum. They have a bunch of old military vehicles on display and I knew Ashton would love it...

Oh and to top it off, after the museum, we grabbed a quick bite at Wendy's. There was an elderly woman who was trying to figure out how to juggle her tray while walking with her cane. Ashton got up, went over to her and said "May I help you with that?" She just looked at him so relieved and said "Bless You! Yes, please!" Ashton took her tray for her...and she smiled, patted him on the shoulder and thanked him "Thank you sooo much!" Good one, Son...I'm proud of you!

Heh...940 to be exact. Funny - the only "bird" pics I got were of the A10 and the ones at the museum.
