I was wondering if anyone knows what the effect would be if you used a matte clear coat over a gloss pain finish? Would it give the pain that flat look?

I was thinking of painted my fairing with a gloss and a flat color scheme. The problem is that I don't have many options for the flat color. So my thought was to spray the clear over it.

Try not to get to techie with me on this one lease:... I'm not a paint man. I know there's a pro way but I'm stuck with the newb way.

Ken,
Watersand the shiny clearcoat with with 1500 wetsanding paper. This will dull out the shine. Then respray the matte finish.
You could try it on a old fender or bellywing first. I have done many of professional paint jobs, but never this!
Also, you want to make sure that the new finish is compatible with the OEM paint/clear. This could run you into big problems if not......

thanks for the reply. Yea, I'm gonna try it on a fender I have (fiber glass) and see what happens.

try 400 grit.. you need to have your new paint bite into something..
