paint stripping

I think sanding would be the best way. That's what I did when I repainted part of the tail...

I would think that anything (liquid/gel, etc.) strong enough to strip paint...would also "melt" the plastic.
 
There is a abs plastic bumper paint remover. The only problem with that is it soaks into the plastic. You have to get a bunch more materials to prep the surface to get all that crap off before paint. Good ol' sanding would be your best bet.
 
i used an orbital sander w/wet sand paper (1000-1200?) i was fixing a break too.
it turned out ok. im not much of a painter, but i think it looks good.
