check out a dealership in that area. Usually they have the best quotes. I went through a Harley dealership and saved about 2500 a year.

That is not even sane! If you didn't pay the insurance for two years, the bike is paid off! Look somewhere else for insurance. I am with USAA and pay $400/yr full cover. (USAA) is marketed to military officers. Others use State Farm and pay a similar amount to me. The only thing is that you have to have a house and all of your cars with them too to qualify (I think?).

That company is trying to tell you they don't want your business. I would call the California insurance control board and investigate if that is even legal to offer you that price?

Those guys need a cattle prod up the a$$.

Yeah I have USAA and have allways been real happy with them. They are not the cheapest but the cheapest is rarely the best. God Help you if you need to file a claim with a small shadey, specialist insurance company...

I would check State Farm, and if you are military you can do a whole lot worse than USAA.

How old are you and what's your driving record like?

I'm 28, single, rent apt., perfect record(so far), and no pets.
I've tried state farm, farmers ins, geico, don't qualify for usaa, AIS, allstate, and some others. They all same the same thing:"All supersport bikes in your zip code are going to be that expensive"(Appartently theft is the cause).......I'm considering on going just liability($250 a year) and hope my lein holder won't find out. If they do, use my car as collaterol(can't spell) or take out some other loan to pay off the first one. Anybody else try this?

ok, I think that sucks.
I pay 19.20 a month ~233 /yr
I'm 25 and I have 1 accident and one ticket on my record...niether on the bike.
I have been riding for 5 yrs and have had my license sice I was sixteen.
Progressive originally wanted to charge me 2800, but with the multiple vehicle discount @ state farm I got my price way down.
I had a 96 Katana until I moved back to WI in 00 and I only paid 53 a month @ age 20-22 living in Oceanside. So all I can say is you're getting hosed.

I pay 239 for 6 months liability coverage and then my agent puts me through the assigned risk pool for coverage on the comprehensive and collision. That comes out to around 2400 for 12 month coverage. But then again i do live in Queens< NYC

USAA isn't for officers ONLY officers anymore. While I was in the states I used USAA as an enlisted member. I as 23 when I bought my baby. I was going through the same problem as all over you with the $4000-$6000 for bike insurance. But I went with USAA and they told me $95 bucks a month with full coverage but had to have a car as my primary transportation. Saved me thousands and I was happy. Now I'm overseas and I have to pay $1200 per year for bike only *sobs*

Charles thats exactly what Im doing . I got quoted over 4 grand a year full coverage. Im paying less than 400 for just liability. I did buy the bike cash so no lienholders to mess with me this time. Like others have said ,two years and it pays for itself, especially since I typically only ride nice weather and usually less that 5000 miles a year. You never know ,this strategy may bite me in the a$$ but I'll take a shot this time!

Back in the 80's and 90's, before Progressive was known for their website sales and on-the-spot adjustors, they were primarily a motorcycle insurance company (in fact, the AMA helped them to GET as big as they got because they pushed Progressive in mailings to members). Now, many have ragged them on the auto side as having horrible claims handling in terms of trying to put the screws to you, so I'll caveat that.

Personally, Cincinnati Casualty rocks for me. Avoid Allstate, Nationwide and State Farm. Allstate is who were recently had *everything* with for 4 years, and after 2 home claims, they were ready to drop us, especially after we made them honor their "warranty" on a shoddy slap-job repair on the first claim. Nationwide was the company that the girl who hit me had, and they were HORRIBLE to haggle over nitpicky stuff on an ancient '84 Nighthawk-S!!! State Farm is headquartered in my hometown of Lafayette, IN, and I feel a bit qualified from knowing folks that work there that State Farm has the attitude of "we're expensive and we don't care, especially if you don't have a spotless record for the last 8 years." Probably not too great for a top end sports bike, but I could be wrong...

If you have any family or friends in the area that live outside of town a little bit you can try to give their address to the insurance company and be sure to list it as pleasure only. Sometimes just getting out of town can make a huge difference...Just make sure that you friends or relatives are cool with it.
