Old bikes you have owned thread

I had the 250 version of this bike, I also thought I was cool. LOL

I was in WV with my brother in law. He and his buddies had a real mixed bag of machines that day. I got to ride a 250 in the mountains. While I was not fast, it was the most satisfying bike ever to string together a series of good corners. I had to keep the tach up like a 125 two-stroke and shift, shift, shift. Awesome fun.

A couple of past faves... both 1999 models.

It was 1993. I was 17 I think and bought it with cash I saved from bagging groceries at the commissary on Ft. Eustis (nicked named Ft. Useless) in Newport News, VA. I wasn't that far from you! I had to hide it at a friends house before I had the courage to bring it home (my parents were dead against motorcycles...look at me now...LOL). Anyway, I loved it, it was freedom to me.

Working at Wendy's going to junior college, my first brand new bike was a stretch. I went in for the bargain basement Nighthawk 650, but fell hard for the S 700 parked next to it. $3,600 if memory serves. Such a great bike. Overdrive was a revalation. Even bought an Arai. All on $3.50 / hour and odd jobs. Amazing.

Freddie Spencer made me do it...

I had a friend that had the same one only a 750...he used to have fits when I blow by him on my RD400F..

I wanted the Canadian bike. We Yanks had to do with the Harley tariff displacement for a time.

I rode an RZ350 once. Super fun.
He and I were going out for our first ride together and I was on my fully tricked out RD,

I told him "I might go a little fast so don't feel you (he) had to keep up..."

He scoffed at me and said "this is a 750, it'll have no problem keeping up to that thing..."

We took off and I didn't see him until I waited for him to catch up...all he could say was "what the heck is that thing?"

Tomos NTX 50. Absolutely massive bike with a tiny wittle engine. 30mph and 125mpg
Yamaha RD125LC. 20ish hp, 100mph, not in the slightest learner legal... think this affected me forever.
Yamaha RD250.
Yamaha RD350LC. Hooligan bike, 120mph flat out, proper old school 2 stroke.
Yamaha YZF600R. First 4 stroke, developed power like a 2 stroke (i.e none, then it all comes at once)
Kawasaki ZZR600. Properly quick and underrated bikes. Very comfy, will do 160mph.
Kawasaki ZX9R. Again, underated, in it's day was the fastest. 174mph from a 900cc!
Kawasaki ZX12R. The only bike that after a year of ownership still scared the **** out of me full throttle.
Kawasaki ZXR750. Proper old school, always wanted one, tbh very disappointing, 118hp isn't much.
Yamaha YZF1000R Thunderace. Didn't realize at the time but just as fast as a Blackbird
Honda CBR1100XX. Ex unmarked Police pursuit bike, you're not outrunning it (unless you're on a ZX12R!)
Aprilia Tuono 1000R. Mental, hooligan, 135hp and 180Kg (under 400lbs). Get used to wheelies
Kawasaki GTR1400. Old mans missile. Perhaps the best for long distance high speed comfort.
Kawasaki ZX14R. Everyone has to experience one of these (2012 - 2015 had 207hp). Respect!
Suzuki Hayabusa. My first ever brand new bike. Not quite a 14R but more rounded and better equipped.

Nice speed collection. Owned a ZX 12 myself, very underastimated bike!
