"Official" Clutch Thread

So I started on this project because my bike "jumps" only when put into gear from neutral. All other operations feel fine. It also was engaging just off handlebar. I flushed the fluid and that cave an additional 1/4 in the lever. Still jumps however. After talking to a few of you guys on my other posts, I conclude that my probable cause is either worn fibers or a warped steel. Found a deal on Ebay for a complete kit with gaskets, OEM, for 113 shipped. Well frack it, went on and ordered it. Got a deal working with Rob @Boosted Cycle Perf for a welded clutch hub so I went on and pulled the clutch apart. On removal I noticed that all but the most inner steel plate is blued badly and a thick black film on the inner and outer hub assy. If this was a cars flywheel I would replace or machine so it seems as though this was good timing. I will upload more pics as parts get in ( hopefully tomorrow ) and update this post.

Just curious but what is the mileage on the bike?

Well I've thought 45K for the longest but since you asked, I apparently was wrong...LOL. 49K. Probably the stock clutch. Ill never know. Someone before I bought the bike raced it, or at least started prepping it for that. Most of the bike is safety wired, or at least was until I started wrenching on it.

hi ssgt

did i already or did i not write about black dots (big like thumb´s nail) on the steels?
i think i did ;-)

that was my problem with that damn kangaoo-feeling starting the bike in 1st gear
but my busa didn´t had that forward going when shifting from 0 to 1st.

thank you dear for getting another lesson about clutch behavior.

I’ve always pulled the clutch lever in a few times and waited a few seconds (with clutch lever pulled in) before engaging first gear from neutral . . . It just clicks into gear nicely and never jumps into gear.
I’ve never had my clutch cover off and the bike has 125,000kms on it, I’ve done 50,000kms in 5 years I’ve owned it.
I have a brand new OEM clutch in the desk drawer waiting for the day . .
