Obama wants your guns!

I doubt the arrest rate would rise. Most people selling illegal items sell more than one so I doubt there would be just ammo dealers selling illegaly. But may get a the guys caught on a routine stop. They are a felon and have ammo in the car. But would this be another felony? A ticket? County jail time? I think all it would do is add time or fines to people already being caught for drugs guns theft etc etc.

This would also add to fees on ordering ammo as well. If your in a town that doesn't carry what you want. No more mail order. You would have to go through a dealer and pay more or just do without.

Also one more you would have people robbing just for the ammo now. Higher crime rate. Underground people will make more money. Personally I just can't see this being a benefit to anyone really.

The ban on lead should just exist for hunting I think if at all. I think that's as far as it will go.

I donno much about guns or bullets, but wont carving letters/numbers on bullets make it less aerodynamic? wont the trajectory change, specially as it's high velocity? plus bullets are made in mass production, so wont serializing be more expensive as far as production system goes?
Not only that, now you have worry about your bullets being stolen and used somewhere else..you have to report police with the serial number sequence of the box or the ones specifically stolen. Wouldnt that be an added headache to honest owners?

my roomates dad is stocking up on guns and ammo for this exact reason. In the last year he bought a 50cal, 4 different styles of 40 cal's i believe he said, a 20mm.... and something else that is on order. Along with an entire storage room full of ammo.

Serializing every box of bullets would make the cost go up and prob throw a huge monkey wrench into reloading. Not to mention it can't be done in a fashion that is reliable. Kinda like the proposed law cali had the stamps all brass when fired by the gun basically the manufacturers told them no. Its not feasible to monitor ammo. Background checks would be the best route but criminals buy guns that have felonies so how would that stop them. Just create another undergorund market.

Not like it will ever happen but I'm talking about actually micro-engraving the base of each bullet .
Almost all calibers and all weights of bullets have a flat spot on their base . If you were to put a multi digit code onto each bullet law enforcement upon recovery of said bullet would easily be able to tell who the original purchaser was .
The engraving part is easy and no more difficult than engraving a wedding ring. Same size font same techniques. It's the computerization and nationalization that you would have to incorporate and get people to swallow .
That is what I think would be the biggest hurdle .

Problem is there is no guarantee the base will stay intact. I guess its better than nothing but with all the what ifs that could happen because of this it just doesn't make sense to me.

Your right and I'm just throwing an idea out there that may with work possibly work. Usually its multiple rounds fired not just one.
Not all jackets would stay attached but many would and if recovered from a human body most would still be readable I think.
Could...just could solve a few homicides.
Again I'm just thinking out loud is all.

I think these socialists are going to get knee-capped this November and lose some of the weight they get to throw around.

Secondly, I love to shoot black powder, civil war era weapons (especially the revolvers of that era) and I have enough lead and ball molds in my garage to shoot them suckers for a LONG time!

this november or any other november will not change a damn thing!!!! its still a 2 party system. its still only 1/3rd of them that offend you. it still gives the other 2/3rds the ability to corrupt for 2 years. the system is FLAWED!!! it will always be buisness as ususall till we take buisness's out of it and we change the rules instead of them.

Yeah, we've got adequate laws on the books to take care of today's problems, but the big issue is that so many felons are being slapped on the hand and released. Our prisons are overcrowded and many of them have been closed due to the economy. Gun laws aren't going to accomplish anything if the people that commit crimes with guns aren't put away.!! I know for a fact that several of the local killings in the Toledo area could have been prevented if the perps had been locked up from previous gun charges..!!

Then again, if a person wanted to commit a crime with a serialized bullet, all he's got to do is buy a 5 dollar plastic bullet puller, pull the bullet, file off the serial number and put the bullet back in the case.
I don't think thats going to be the solution to any problems.

That would involve alot more than just what you say and require more intelligence than the average gang banger has.
Easy to pull it yes but putting it back in at correct depth so as to not blow yourself up is another thing .

not hard to find the data and presses are readily available. Chances are you are going to steal it or aquire it illegally anyways so why would you even bother. Serializing ammo is impractical and would impact the "law abiding citizen", not you average criminal.

Again I don't think the average gangbanger knows how to properly load a die in a press or has one. Not that they can't learn but most of the people shooting up our streets are idiots .
