O.k., who was it

I'm going to court for my 90 mph ticket soon in Ventura CA. I knew what I was doing... only 155 mph on PCH, and the CHP clocked me on the slow down at 120 mph. But I weighed the outcome and it was easier (or cheaper) for me to pull over and take it "like a man". Well, the cop appreciated it and wrote me for 90 mph instead (my riding buddy/mentor as well) and added, "if you were actually going 85 or 90, I wouldn't even have turned my head".

ticket is $262, a lot cheaper than spending the night in jail, bike impounded, suspended license and all of the associated fees.

you should never run. I don't care how competent a rider you are. The risk to an innocent person's life is to great.  All I know is if you run and hurt anyone from my family or a friend of mine... Your life and your families isn't worth Sh!t.  Fortunantly, I think most of the running talk is posturing.  From cruising this board for a little I find that the majority (if not all) are responsible individuals and take more than ample safety precautions to lessen the danger from an already dangerous lifestlye. In life all actions have consequences... just make sure you have the ass to back it up.
Thanks for letting me rant

Hey buddy I hope you practice what you preach and one day some jerk with a badge plays a mind game with you. Maybe he'll stop you and threaten to write you 30 mph over what you were doing. Maybe he'll Ride in the dark nudging you just waiting for you to justify twisting the throttle and nail ya for evading.

My point: YOU can never fully and rightfully understand why people choose their paths. When they explain them, understand they are doing their best to justify their actions. But odds are unless they admit they were wrong, you'll probably NEVER know why they did exactly what they did unless you can walk step for step in their shoes on the same given moments. Never say never.

first, the kid is 22 without "proper license" ... should tell you all you need to know.

I'm sure there are some guys on here that are that young but generally most folks here are late 20s and up. I'm sure most of us would not have run

but 162 sounds to me like he got scared and then ran out of room.....

and the cop's comment.... at 160+mph a june bug can do some damage

22 here, but have my license

Didn't understand the mind game part concerning the cops or the nudging? My point was... It's not worth putting other people's lives at risk to evade a ticket. Unless you were boning the cops wife and know he wants to pop a cap in your ass

Other than that what real reason is there to run? If your breaking the sound barrier on a public road you should pretty much have the money in hand for the ticket when you get popped or an awesome lawyer.

How often does a cop write a ticket way over what you are doing or nudge you to get you to twist. I live in PA to and have flown down 476 when no one was around in the triple digits... If I get popped I get popped but I don't do it often and when I do... I'm prepared to pay if I get popped or fight it with a lawyer. Not run at triple digit speeds and plow through a minivan full of kids when I hit traffic and can't cut the shoulder or split the lane. You do what you do and I'll do what I do. Doens't mean we can't ride together Just means if we are out there getting crazy there is a good chance I'll pull over when were caught and say you were just some random guy on a bike and I don't know who you are or where you came from.

What difference does it make if you are running from the law? If you're running triple digits and can't slow down long enough to avoid an accident you are a piss poor rider. I have yet to see the cop-mobile that can accelerate from a dead stop to 120mph in less than 7 seconds, so even if I have to totally stop, I'm up before he gets close. I agree that speeding is dangerous, but it's something most of us do regularly. If you wreck during a high speed run and kill someone, they are just as dead as they would be if the law was chasing you. If you run triple digits, you are taking the same risk as running from the law.

If you run, just be prepared to go to jail, pay hundreds in fines, lose your bike, have all sorts of moving violations on your record/hence no more insurance coverage, suspended license...

Or if you pull over, pay a much smaller fine and goto traffic school.

The choice is yours...

Not if you run, you mean if you get caught. None of that applies if you get away with it.
It is irresponsible and wrong to run, but there are people that do it every day, prolly some on this board would do it/have done it, and not just the younger members, either.
You are right, the choice is up to the individual, but it also depends on the circumstances. If I'm running 130+,in the middle of nowhere, cops going the other direction and it's 3 AM, chances are I ain't stopping and he ain't catching me. That's a snap decision I have to make right then.

really there should be no "run"
if u can't loose the man within a minute or so might as well not make the attempt cus he has been on the radio by then
when i was young and dumb, doing about a buck 10 on the freeway, at night in my mustang when i passed a leo taking pictures, seen him in my mirror pull out, i killed my lights and exited at a exit, while on the feeder road with him still on the freeway. i turned into residentual area and "hid" for awhile.
he never really seen me or what kinda car i was in .
later

I've always subscribed to the theory that if you're gonna run from the law, you better be committed. If this guy only saw 162, he obviously wasn't. Better to pull over in the begining than pull over after half ass running.
not that I've ever done anything like that.......
As crazy as Mr. Brown's statement is its true. lol....

Not going to disagree with you on the danger at high speeds... And no I'm not stopping if I fly by a cop in the opposite lane. But if he/she is behind me with the lights flashing I'm not gonna run him and make an already dangerous situation worse. Thats just me. And while I do disobey the legal speed limits on occasion... I'm not doing it in rush hour traffic which seems when all these chases are going on. I also agree that its not just 20 somethings out there doing it. It's almost a moot point but when your cranking the bike your usally doing it in as safe an enviroment as can be... Hopefully with no traffic on the road. I usually look for empty or infrequently used roads that can support the speed. Doens't make me less skilled. But it seems most cycle chases you hear about are in high traffic areas with less than skilled riders. I'm definitly not a pu$$y on the bike but I am reticent about running when it might put someone else in danger.

If your gonna run your gonna run just don't become a statistic.

I wasn't implying that you're a puss cuz you don't run, or knocking your bike skills, I was just pointing out that fast is dangerous, no matter what. We are in agreement on that.
The surroundings and situation dictate whether or not I run.
