NYC Sound Ordinance

 The AMA is not going to lobby on behalf of those using illegal equipment on the street. I'm betting that their stance is for their members follow the laws and not put illegal equipment on the street in the first place. How much credibility is the AMA going to lose when it stands up befor the EPA and demands loud pipes?

well I think the direction the AMA should go is that the law targetting one type of motorized vehicle where it expressly avoids the same issue with other types is wrong. I dont think they will ever say "hey let us ride with race only gear on the roads" but attack stupidity where its vulnerable.... laws must be at least fair and equitable across the board, this one is at face value, not so.

Pardini, of course the AMA will not lobby for illegal equipment on the street. But they already are working against allowing governing bodies to penalize/restrict motorcycles/riders without addressing the same issues with other vehicles/drivers.

Personally, I have ZERO problem with keeping noise to a realistic and civil level - it's a matter of common courtesy. But what I absolutely cannot stand is bikes being called loud while ricers and bassers and similar boom through town.

We're doing it to ourselves...so thats who we should be blaming :poke:??? All the guys that want everybody to look at them are getting their wish  We're starting to get LOTS of attention :beerchug: Thank god I'm in an area where that isn't a problem  I feel for you poor suckers that ARE paying the price tho :(

Exactly!

I just wish they would not "traget" motorcycles. If they said any motor vehicle with such and such blah blah 80 decibels. It would be a lot easier to swallow.

What I hate is while sitting in my car (with the windows rolled up) hearing BOOM BOOM BOOM in deep Base from a car, 4 cars behind me. And as LOUD as if it was my radio wide open

they just don't like sportbikes in the city. This will help keep the bikes out. I guess some how this'll solve all of their problems...

You'll never see me ride into NYC ever again. :moon:

Yeah , I bought an LTZ 250 quad , my kids needed some more toys:whistle:. waiting for the spring for a new bike , or might just put some $$S into the 05 le? still have the mufflers and mid pipes for an 08 and a hump !

silly thing is I have a feeling the bike is sitting in some idiots house and they are going to try riding it this spring / summer. I hava looked high and low , then I looked even lower ? I cant find a bolt from my bike anywhere. There is a lot of stupid people in my town , Probably a seventeen year old took it he is going to be pretty suprised when I find him !

wonder if just not having exhaust would qualify you for a violation

Did you ever replace the one that someone took?

I have never before had a desire to go to New York city, now I never will. Beautiful country out around Cooperstown but no way no how will I ever set foot or stand in NYC. Also I am doubting the AMA will ever have enought clout or money to sway any of those so called public servants in Washington. We have sat back and allowed our country to be sold off piecemeal to the highest bidder by a bunch of lawless hypocritical back stabbing professional politicians. Who wipe their feet, at best, on the constitution daily. Ah man, now my head hurts...I'm getting off the soap box. Sorry...Viva la revo lu shon.

In a related story, did y'all hear about the fact that NYC tickets motorcycles in HOV lanes...

...IN SPITE OF the fact that Federal law says that motorcycles are allowed in HOV lanes. :wtf:

I looked all over my stock pipes, and do not see any indication whatsoever that they have been "approved" by anyone. No stamps anywhere. How in the he11 is anybody gonna be able to comply with this hair-brained law. And don't think for a minute that this will end at the city limits of NYC...it's coming soon to a city near you!
Fascism at its best.

Remember all this is coming to you by our, WE CAN TAKE CARE OF YOU BETTER Than You can Yourself GOVERNMENT

Business control going Socialistic and Liberties going Fascistic :rulez:

I guess that's what happens in an Overpopulated Country. When the Government (Citizens) feel they have both the need and the right to be taken care of by the Government from Cradle to Grave. And of course they aren't personally responsible for anything that happens to themselves, or what they vote for

NYC Mayor Bloomberg is a rip-off. He will fine anything that he is able too to raise revenue funds.. From raising tolls going to NYC (Manhattan, Brooklyn-Queens,Bronxs, Staten Island), and also plan to install more toll inside the city Parking Meter is very limited and expensive, The Pigs have a quota on tickets to be issued so they will give you tickets everytime they get a chance. :poke:

I have seen a Chinese food delivery man on a bicycle get a ticket because he does not have the name of the restaurant in front of the bicycle. I have gotten lots of tickets in the city (approx $600 minimum yearly). Stop lights changes really quick (Split seconds) and they have a Cameras. If you stop too fast before the light you're gonna get rear ended...

NYC Sucks... I'm not surprise to see this... its just another way to decrease traffic in the city so people will take the Subways. If you ride.. you got to pay up.... :moon:

Yeah, I hate NY... the gov. is now suggesting that he tax shoes, clothes and get this... 15% on sugar based sodas (non-diet) :banghead: Are you fuggin kidding me... oh yeah and he's going to increase the tax on GAS ... toss his blind a$s out on the street, obviously he cant see how STUPID this "budget" is for the men & women who are scraping by now!

*And no I'm not picking on him cuz he's blind... but he is a jackas$ and for that I am :banghead:

Q: Why did the AMA suddenly issue this position statement?
A: The AMA has fought motorcycle bans in St. Louis, Detroit, Brockton, Massachusetts, and Springfield, Illinois. The foundation for each was tied to excessive noise. More recently we have confronted proposed motorcycle prohibitions in Chicago and New York City. Motorcycle noise, again, was the justification for these proposals.

In the past several years, the AMA has spent well over $100,000 defending lawsuits and confronting legislative prohibitions initiated by zealous legislators responding to their belief that motorcycles are too loud. In Europe, where road closures to stifle excessive noise are becoming almost commonplace, anti-tampering legislation and restrictive sound emission requirements are under serious consideration.

The position results from the Board's desire to avoid further restrictions on motorcycling. If the excessive noise problem is not addressed voluntarily, and in a timely fashion, these restrictions are inevitable. The Board agrees that failing to raise this warning, despite the potential negative reception by some, would be shirking their responsibility to AMA members and the motorcycling community.

From the AMA link posted by KRZ_1300:

Q: Why should appropriate laws and ordinances against excessive vehicle noise be fairly and consistently enforced?
A: The AMA believes that if existing laws and ordinances governing excessive noise from vehicles of all types were fairly and consistently enforced, the problem of noisy vehicles would be effectively eliminated.
