Noisy Valvetrain?

I have great hearing. Can always pin down squeaks, rattles, etc... can hear a bad lifter in a car 20ft away, etc...

Is the busa engine normally kinda noisy in the valvetrain? Even with my Muzzys pipe I can hear the valves at low speed/mid rpms. Only 2500 miles on her, and can't imagine time for valve adjustment yet...

Is it me, or is it normally a bit noisy?

not to rub it in, but was a quite nice 60* day today... 2 hour ride... legs and hips don't like long rides when its cool, but was definitely worth it!!

How's the toe feeling?  Glad you were able to get the bike out.
By the way I haven't noticed any strange noises. Then again I haven't ridden for about two months

worked on range-of-motion for the first time last night on the toe... wholy heck!!!! burns like crazy!!

as for the 60* weather, at 100+ for long durations, start to get chilly on the legs. I'm gonna run to portland tomorrow and hope to get Thinker62 out!

Mine is alittle noisy if I have my helmet off. I have heard of the lifters making some noise right before the adjuster tightens up the timing chain. If it's real loud I'd have some one check it out before it's too late.

Take off your factory cam chain tensioner and throw it away. They fail a lot. It is easy to install and set a manual cam chain tensioner. A lot easier than repairing your valve train after skipping a gear. Just my $.02

Hi Cache...mine is an 01..updated tensioner came stock..
I have 10 k on mine..put 8k on it this summer..my hearing is bad..i hear a little valve ticking when the engine is cold..
don't hear anything when warmed up..I think yours isn't even broken in yet..have you taken it to redline yet...I have been on the rev limiter quite a few times....129 gps mph in third..
wow..Like Nariccuss sez..first valve check is at 16K..and he did not have to readjust any..at 18k...Twist it up Cache..
it should get quieter....No ticking is bad...tight valves are worse than loose ones..

A late reply but ... if it's related to the quantity of oil in the crankcase then I can tell you that I've found more than one spec on it's capacity (3100, 3300, 3500ml). My experience is that it should be at least 3500ml (about 3.7 quarts) of oil. The sight window should fill up when raising the bike from rest on the kick stand to upright vertical. This should be w/out tilting past the balancing point and letting the window flood, since it's on the right side of the engine. The first time I changed the oil and put in less than 3.7 quarts I heard the valve train ticking at and above idle. Filling to capacity quieted the engine noises immediately.

Working on breaking in my Bike but I did notice the Valve train noise, remind me of a sewing machine.

Also anyone get a wierd farty sound from the intake at about 3500 rpm steady load?

Are the factory cam tensioners on the 2003 busas lousy too?
And if you are a "gentle" rider, does it even matter?

2001 Valve tick, Topped off the oil and all is well, I do have some concern about foaming due to it being above the f mark.

Don't keep adding oil Bro... The Valvetrain and motor in general is pretty rowdy... It's normal, it's um.... character... Yeah thats it...

I have an 04 and im at about 2700 miles and I hear the same thing in second when just crusing at about 30 mph it goes away shortly after, I have been told it is normal. I can hear mine with helmet on too.

Its normal....its an exposed directly under you bike engine...your gonna hear some noises I guarantee it

Actually the Suzuki's I've owned have been some of my quietest 4-strokes. You want a rowdy sounding engine own a few Kawasakis, their fun reliable bikes...but they shift like crap and they're noisy as hell

It does seem like the 2004 manuals off on the amount of oil to add after an oil and oil/filter change tho. Bout' half a quart low it seems
