No pun intended?

Why do people say "no pun intended" when they say something that can be taken both literally and humorously? Fox was interviewing some guy yesterday about gays in the military, and he said something to the effect of "no hard feelings....no pun intended." Obviously he thought it was funny, so wouldn't the pun have been intentional?

/adding this to my list of pet peeves

If you have a LIST of Pet peeves, you are letting way too many things bother you. Hope it subsides when riding season starts!

It's a mental list....I don't think about it very often. And yes, it will subside come March..ish.
