Molybdenum grease is what I used to use to coat the cam lobes with. Kinda like a thick silicon goo. Works awesome. You should be able to find it at most parts stores.

Assembly lube, on all internal parts.
It'll stick to the parts much better than oil (most of the oil will run back into the sump/pan).
That way, everything is properly lubricated, and idealy, you have no bare metal to metal contact at start up, which is where and when alot of damage can occur.
