New Style Rear Axle Nut, no cotter pin

So how does this nut work???
It looks like some type of retainer to keep it from backing off.
I have almost 2" of slack in the chain and would like to adjust it a bit, but have never seen this type of locking device.
Please help, and Thanks in advance.

Well kick my butt, but I've had mine off a half dozen times in 22K miles. I just spin it off and spin it back on. If you have a torque wrench throw 72.5 on it

I drilled mine and safety wired it. This way I can spot check it and not worry.
Did this with many key nuts and bolts on my bike. Kinda like a Pre Flight check I like to visually check all things before each ride. Being safety wired I can look and be assured they are all still properly torqued without having to actually touch them.
