New Shoes :)

After 3646 miles from new I discarded the OEM BT015R's in favore of Pilot power 2CT up front , and a Pilot
road 4 out back . Funy after close inspection of the OEM front tire with DOT date of 3613 ( made 36 th week of 2013 ) there was dry rot going on in between the tread . Rear as well . I bet the new shoes will make cornering much more fun as I noticed the stockers steeped out often for little to no reason .
I also went 190/55/17 out back over the 50 series .

I think I'll try the 55 next time too just to see if I like it over the 50, of which I have no complaints in nearly 60,000 miles. I also run PRs front and rear. The edges are sticky enough and the tire wears longer overall.

i've used the 55 series a couple times on sticky tires, i've never bothered on the ones i know are going to be more for distance...they do make a difference, you'll enjoy the upgrade :beerchug:

Thanks Semi . FYI my OCD requires me to measure tread depth every few hundred miles @ the same location on the tires . ( DOT stamps ) to see how they wear , and for calculating millage . My OEM tires still had some life in them , but I was tired of the slip sliding riding going on .

Ill post at end of weekend as planning a 500 mile ride since nice weather .

pictures before heading out for week end . 5.50 mm on rear tire and 4.66 mm on rear @ wear bar . millage on clock is 4385 = 739 miles so far
( more by sunday 4/3/16 )

I too recently upgraded to a set of PR4's for this season (front and rear); my OEM rubber was pretty much done. I probably could have squeaked a couple more months out of them; but I dislike running tires on my motorcycle when they aren't in very good shape.

The Pilot Road 4s sure seem to handle better, and, if they are anything like the PR3's I had on my Speed Triple; I'm hoping for a very decent life span. Please do let us know what you think of the 55 series on the rear. I gave it some thought myself; but decided to use the stock size. Maybe next time I'll give it a try.

I think I will try 55 series tires on my next tire change as well as try the road series when I return to the US. Bridgestone S20R are just right for the German twisty back roads.

I like the 55 series for several reasons . Turn in is better , but the real winner is teamed with a 19 tooth front sprocket for gearing the speedo matches the GPS perfectly at all times without the need for a speedo healer . Now though with the gearing/tire size change for every 100 miles traveled on GPS
the odometer picks up only 95 miles . So its a 5% difference . With stock gearing / tire the odometer , and gps matched near perfect .

Up date after 3298 miles with PR4 rear , and Pilot power 3 2CT up front . Handling is perfect @ OEM pressures GEN II millage is half two up with bags / gear other half is solo with bags/gear . Two up weight is total 350 pounds . Solo weight
is 180 to 200 gear dependent in Givi bags . I ride aggressive fair amount of wheelies , hard accelerate on exits . Tires are flat perfect in rain even managed a full wheelie solo with bags in the rain no aids just throttle on flat terrain .
It was concrete not asphalt though . At wear rate looks like 4800 miles will be the life span for me . I imagine less two up one could see mid five thousand miles , and maybe 6K with less wheelies :( Here are pics of front/rear first measurement is overall depth to nothing , and second is to wear bar .
