Need some input on cleaning a gas tank

Sold a gas tank on Ebay. Got a message from the buyer that the styro peanuts got inside the tank and melted from the teaspoon of gas that was left in there. Any suggestions on how to get the melted stuff out?

How much are we talking about? If gas melted them in the first place, then more gas should dissolve them.

That's what I told him. Also said that a little bit if acetone wouldn't hurt once he gets the styrofoam out.

Acetone is a great solvent for the styrofoam "nuts". I would rinse the tank with a quart of fresh gas and dump it, repeat using a quart of acetone and then one more time with gas. I would have no problem usingthe tanks after this cleaning process is completed
