Need help on a VIN Number

Hey guys, I'm looking at helping a buddy get a bike and I've got the VIN number but need help making sure there isn't anything fishy with it. Supposed to look at it in the morning. He says he doesn't have the title but I'd like to make sure everything is in the up and up. Here is the VIN
JS1GM51A7M2101953 supposed to be in Greenville, SC.

I would check with the DMV in the state... TAKE NO ONES word on title issues except the state itself.. (and even that can be suspect IME)

Title re-issue usually goes to the last recorded owner and that does not account for any Liens... extreme caution here... no title can be BIG headache..

In AZ, all I needed was a notarized power of attorney (from registered owner) to recover lost titles for people but you never know what you are going to get back..

Be very careful. Even if they hand you a title that doesn't mean it's clear.
