at all gen1 the voltage is steered by a separate relay (somewhere in the bike) what is caused by the temp.-switch (LH at radiator)
so when the temp. in the rad. is at 105°C the switch closes the circuit to the relay what then gives volt free to the fan.

but!
while you're at changings at the fan´s wires etc., look my homepage where i describe where the temp.-switch should be located new (RH into the rubber line)
believe me - the very best you can do for a very long (ever) lasting cyl.-head gasket .
