try to talk him out of it. for less money, he can get something better and WAY more reliable. my riding buddy had a 975 or whatever and the build quality was low, and the performance even lower

I think a Triple would be a badazz second bike- 146 lbs of torque!!

bullshit!! I own 2 Triumphs currently..one being a speed triple and it is as reliable as anything I have ever owned and one of the best most satisfaction filled ownership experience from anything I've had the pleasure of owning. The bike is superb and just about the most fun I've ever had on 2 wheels, 21k miles so far and utterly problem free!
