Maybe for you cable and dsl folks. For us 56k'ers (me anyway) it seems to be way, way slower. Any posts with pics actually loads the entire page, pics and all before I see anything. No sweat though, this community of ours is worth every second of it!

go to your control panel - account options and you can turn part of it off.

Personally I'd like to see a Black Skin, or at least a dark grey with light text.

I work in a cave, and the light colored backgrounds start becoming a bit of a strain.
