Mixing ECU's

I received a Busa engine, wiring harness and ECU, all in a box. After carefully connecting everything, I cranked the engine and heard the engine trying to start. New plugs, fuel check, cam check, to no avail. Then bang and the starter cover cracks. New cover and crank and bang goes the case, the starter gears and the tip of the crank. Many Suzuki mechanics, message boards, etc. later. No help.....But I found out pre-2002 ECU (8 tick flywheel) will plug into post 2002 engine (24 ticks) and ECU tries to fire plugs 3X too often. Shame on Suzuki engineers for not changing ECU connector.

What year is the motor?

2002 and older Busa engines had starter issues...blown starters and cracked cases were the result. 99-01 have 16 bit ECU's...02 + up have 32 bit.
