Massive handling improvement....wow

i would like to share with you my GEN2 experience.
owned new since november 2010, done 11,000 miles now, the guys on another UK busa forum swear by a UK suspension specialist in England. MCT suspension near Ipswich ( east of England) and works on many Racebikes on BSB etc.

always thought my bikes handling was good, and was certainly better than my GEN1, i owned last year.

so pullled in to shop( i weigh 200lbs) and they checked my front static sag, front too soft with only 2 inches of available suspension left.
Removed front forks, replaced internal springs with stiffer and added 7.5 weight oil. refitted and set rebound and damping to suit bike and me.

removed rear shock drained oil , and i could see the oil had air bubbles in it, thinking it had just occured Darren the specialist said this would have been caused by mass produced shock assembly in japan with no attention to detail.

rebuit and primed, pressurised air bubble free, and reinstalled, with correct rider wight settings.
3 hours later...

Darren took my bike out for test ride and my bike came back in 5 mins chicken strip free!
he warned my that when i took out for test, i would find the bike as if it was 50 lbs lighter and with instant turn-in.

well he wasn't wrong it actually feels 60 lbs lighter, what a difference i took the bike out on twisties near his workshop, on unknown roads, my heavy busa now feels as if its a nimble 600. with such accurate steering and turn, super composure.
i have 1/2" chicken strips and these have visibly reduced further.
i am cornering up to 10mph faster on the same corners, my riding is smoother with less stop, start bike response

now with 34mm static sag, i have more available suspension and the front wheel now follows the road,as previous on a road near me at 100mph in 3rd i used to get handle bar shake and i would have to roll off the throttle, now i can accelerate right through to redline in 3rd , no shake.
it alsp puts down power cleanly.

all in all the best performance mod i have down for $500.

you must have similar shops, stateside over the pond.. suspension mods should be the 1st mod your busa should have, wish i done thsi years ago..

I used to live in Felixstowe, just south of Ipswich. If you REALLY want to try that new suspension out, take the A1071 from Ipswich to Sudbury sometime...brilliantly fast, curvy road!

I sure do miss rides like that over here in Dallas.

i drive down 150 miles from Yorkshire and i chose the same road down to Stowmarket and back a mixture of fast B roads with plenty of curves.
My bike is now complete, in 2 weeks today i have a track day at Cadwell Park ( famous motorcycle track )in Lincolnshire) so will see how she corners

Yes, over here (western USA) I had RaceTech do the same things and there really is light years difference. On the track I can NEVER blame the suspension for any mistakes! Raydog

I paid a local suspension guy $30 to set-up my bike's suspension for my weight and riding style/preferences.....best money spent so far :)

I have to ask, if you enjoy riding on the track why a busa? I mean, I know you can set it up to handle pretty well for the weight, but I had several Ducs before this bike and, although this is my favourite road bike ever, I have never had that "one with the bike" feeling I had with them. So, for the track anyway, why not a gixxer, or a Duc, MV Agusta, etc?

Anywhere or anyone near Lynchburg VA that could do this? I would love to have mine checked. Although I am not that aggressive when riding I would love for my bike to feel lighter.

Simply put, because he can and he's good at it~!~ Besides, he likes showing some of the liter bikes up every now and then right Ray~?~

congrats on getting your ride set up specifically for you! +1 on RaceTech on this side of the pond, made a huge difference in the way she handles and my confidence level because of it :beerchug:

I would like to set up my bike's suspension also. I live in eastern MA anyone know a good shop to have it set up to my weight? Thanks

Er, yeah...cheers mate, but I was actually asking Ray.

Sorry I took so long to respond, been riding my bicycle up in the mountains for a few days! Here's your answer......there is a thin line between explaining this and bragging so know that please. I am 64 years old and ride a Busa on the track often. There is no better feeling than to mix it up with 600's and literbikes. I've come off the track to the paddock and had folks follow me in. The first thing they say is, "Wow, I thought that was a Busa". The second thing they say (when I take my helmet off) is, Ohmygawd, you're old!" Seldom are there other Busas at track days, there is something special about that, kind of "representing the breed". I get passed sometimes, but mostly stay with the low A/high B riders, which is just fine, I'm not a racer but I do think I am a competent high performance rider that NEVER needs to apologize because I was in someones way on the track. BTW, I use slicks and tire warmers. I love to demonstrate how capable a well tuned (especially suspension) Hayabusa performs on the track...and you know what? the next day I may be loaded with luggage and touring down the coast on the very same bike! I hope that answers your question. Doyle

Yes the difference between an unsorted suspension and one that has been dialed in, even just a little bit, can be quite noticeable.
