do I have to remove the exhaust pipes ( mid pipe )
to get the top bolt out? or is it short enough to slide out with the pipes still on ?

I removed mine. Makes it a LOT easier to get the bolt out. Another way is to drill a 3/4" hole through the pipes if ya really just don't wanna take the exhaust down.

HA! think I'll skip that drilling mod. and just remove the mid pipe.
