Living in a country founded by Geniuses but run by Idiots

oh yeah, and folks that actually do something during the day, productive that earns them a living are proven to be happier, more productive members of society. And not productive as in finance but in other ways. Maintaining their property, doing things for/with family/friends/neighbors, participating in civic programs, helping other, etc. They are generally more healthy, positive and pleasant folks to be around. They have higher moral and feeling of self worth, which is something I think many folks on the govt dole lack today....hence the degradation of the American family unit. Just MY opinion but likely can be found in other places too

Yep! We've thrown away the pursuit of the "Happy life" for a tenuous shot at the "Mega Wealthy Life"...what scares me is some people dont seem to understand that its perfectly fine to life modestly.

I feel like its time for another cool video.... Here's Dr. David Myers (One of the pre-eminent Positive Psychologists), talking about what makes us happy:
The Scientific Pursuit of Happiness | MediaCore

What changed our society ?

Lack, if not absence of morals and values, higher divorce rates, kids raised by the tv and now the interenet instead of the parent(s), parents wanting to be their kids friends before being their parent(usually from not having much of an upbringing themselves), lack of guidance and parenting in general. The attitude that we think we deserve it or are entitled to it. Political correctness, you can't hurt anyone's feelings, ridiculous lawsuits.
Having all this repeated through several generations.
All gives way to human nature, which is selfishness and greed.
We are paying the price for it in today's society.
Meanwhile our elected officials sell out the U.S. from the inside to the highest bidder.

You left out what I think the biggest driver toward third worldisim is, ENVY. People that are not independent thinkers are usually full of envy and hatred of others who are self reliant.

From a random post on my facebook, from a liberal page, at that! I thought you guys could appreciate it!

Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling:

"I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election.

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971 - before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took one (1) year or less to become the law of the land - all because of public pressure.

Congressional Reform Act of 2012

1. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressperson collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office.

2. Congresspersons (past, present & future) must participate in Social Security;

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.
Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and
participates in the same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 12/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women.

Congress made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in
Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers
envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their
term(s), then go home and back to work.

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!
