The spying stuff really heated up discussions in Europe.

Why do you eavedrop 60 million phone calls in Spain, 70.3 million calls in France and the same amount in Germany.
why do you hack the phone and computers of the presidents or prime ministers?
this isn't about counter terrorism. this is to gain economical intelligence advantage over your allies.
The only thing the US government want is to bring Mr Snowden to court for betrayal but you don't hear anyone talking about the disgrace the US brought on itself.
Its pathetic.
Trust in our so called ally is 0 after all this.
how can we trust the US is they apparently don't trust us.
There was planning for a EU-US trade relationship but that one is really put under pressure now.

Ow and another thing, they where so busy tapping in to every bodies phone that the couldn't even spot the Boston bombers.

Imagine that the EU was spying on the US and all members of congress, what would happen if that became public?
Oboema would be threatening to bomb the EU?

Point is that: yes you can have the resources to do it but its unethical, so you dont do it.
you are also not tapping into your best friends phone and mailboxes, because its called TRUST.

your thoughts please.

You guys are in the minority and according to the main stream media, we've never been in a better position :poke:

I guess in three years if a republican can manage to get elected we can talk about the depression, unemployment,

All humor aside, until you see it in a list like this, you don't realize how rediculous we must seem to the rest of the world as a nation. Discraceful. Super Power? What super power?

You guys

Heard a guy on the news a minute ago as I flipped through the channels saying it was alright that mericans were lied to about healthcare because it only really will affect 2 million or so mericans ???

One more lie exposed today... a whopping 200 people have actually successfully signed up on our Government's Affordable Health Care website. No wonder the administration refused to tell us the actual number. Amazing!

I guess you guys wont be happy till another Bush is in office, which is almost enough to send me postal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nice join America. way to be politically correct and vote in bozo the clown who has virtually ZERO experience governing so those that voted for him can say…. "I'm not a racist, just an idiot!"

OK my thoughts. Everything that Snowden has revealed has been going on for years. After 9-11, Bush pressed into action every possible resource be put into monitoring everything. Friend and foe. Knowns and unknowns. How do I know? I was in management of the Eastern Seaboard Signal Exploitation sites from Maine to PR. We listened to, and looked at everything. And we had equal resources looking at everything everywhere else. It isn't that we listened in on the head of Germany's conversations. We looked at who they were calling, who was calling them, where those calls originated from etc. And who may be listening in on them besides us. Remember we didn't know who harbored terrorist and who didn't after 911. Spain was an unknown ally and they made it clear they didn't like our posture. You bet we were listening in on everything going into and out of Spain.

We caught the 93 WTC bombers from the phone calls they made. We knew Bin Laden was where we thought he was for months. However, we didn't have the cooperation of everyone needed so we had to sit on it and watch for changes. Finally we raided and killed him. Seal Team 6 had 100% confidence that it was a high ranking bad guy and most likely it was Bin Laden.

The problem with what we are doing, is that it is essentially illegal as court evidence. So all we can do is collect it, analyze it and try and give the proper channels an idea of who is where and who they are making contact with. Yes we actually could and did listen in on the actual phone conversations depending on the likelihood that we felt they were part of the effort to attack us. But we can't convict or arrest someone who has not committed a crime. Talking about it makes them suspect. Disclosing enough info allows us to get them at the right time and place. We filled up GITMO with targets that we knew were up to something, but couldn't convict them on what we had but felt that removing them was in the best interest of the country. There is TONS of stuff we listen too or watch, that does or goes nowhere.

There is no phone that is secure. No internet connected computer that is secure. No electronic transaction you do that isn't readily available for viewing. If you are not a threat to the state, trust me we could care less if you look at porn sites 14 hours a day or spend $5K a month on your mistress or whatever.

Having said all of this, Obama is pretty much clueless as to what all we monitor. It was in place when he was elected and he simply let it run as it was already designed to do. Its like asking the CEO of GE to tell you how they monitor wear on the 14th blade of the turbine on a jet engine they make. They don't know, they just know it should be being done.

To tell you the truth, we, the people doing it, had a lot of difficulties with the ethics that Bush used to open monitoring up as widely as he did. Most of us felt it would not stand up legally and it was not ethical.

Nice post from someone with first hand knowledge. Thanks!
