Alright, thinking about putting some electronics on the bike in the next few months.
Already going in is a passport 8500 right under the clear windscreen hooked up to a HARD unit. But I've been toying with the idea of a laser shifter like the escort ZR3.
So, the first question is: Is it worthwhile, considering the following:
1.) Bike's are quite a bit smaller than cars, and therefore it should take a little longer for a cop to get a signal because it should be tough to get a good lock on the bike. (Should is the operating word here.)
2.) I'll already have a radar/laser detector which may give me a second or two more notice (only if he's picking off people in front of me, if I'm alone on the road and he waits till I go by to light me up, I know this won't help me here).
3.) The throttle on the bike is a little more responsive than the gas pedal on a car. IE: If I see the cop and let off the throttle and hit the brakes, I should be able to scrub off a lot of speed (Won't help if I'm in the high 100's obviously.)
4.) I like to go fast.....really fast....when there is no traffic and the road is straight and the conditions are right....really fast.... (Perfect opportunity to get picked off)
5.) Which brings me to my second question: Where to mount the front jammers. Because the front of the bike is so small, where would an effective place to mount them be, if worthwhile?
- I saw a post a while back about someone mounting 1 front receiver under the nose. However they said this was not safe, especially if you lower the bike (which I want to do) because there is not much clearance there, and on a crappy street the fender would smash the unit.
- I saw another post of someone mounting it in the bottom of the (cleared) windscreen. This looks like a good solution, but is it good enough.
-Where could you mount the other one up front?...Think about this: Cutting out two spaces in the cowl on either side of the headlight (vetically) and mounting the jammers in there. Therefore you would have a jammer (mounted vertically) on either side of the headlight...which is where (I have been told) cops will aim their laser gun. Would that be doable??
OK, what are your thoughts guys. I think Iceman and KS-waterbug have some experience in this area and I would love some imput from you guys.
So, in recap, is it worth it on a bike, (please lets not get int weather or not they work because we will take it for granted that they do....but do they work good enough for a bike taking into consideration the differences between the engineering and driving of a car and a bike.) And....where to mount the front jammers, taking note of my vertical mount idea.
