Kiwi Busa owner in New Zealand

Hi, bought a Busa a few days ago. Caught a bus to the town where I was picking it up, and rode it about ... around 300km. All went well despite the drizzle and the chain that nees adjusting. Currently, can't get into the rear pillion passenger seat as wire appears to have come off or something ... key turns however, nothing happens. Also, it has a TRE and not too sure what the purpose of this is. Do I keep it on? or take it off? Appreciate any feedback.

Welcome along to Busa Central!
As Cantab suggested, you are better off without it, they can cause more trouble than they are worth, especially the cheapo Chinese ones!
If you have a '99 or '00 model they are not necessary at all as those two models were never timing advance restricted in the first place.
Re the rear seat . . sounds like the cable is disconnected from the latch, I've been there done that too, get a large screw driver and wedge it under the side of the seat and lift the side of it high enough to be able to see the catch, get another long screw driver and push the latch across to free the catch on the base of the seat that's engaged in the latch. It should pop off, mine did. Good luck!
Your bike looks good, no decals and been repainted by the looks, aftermarket rotors too, how many kms? What year model is it?
Post more pics if you can and give us some sorta story about yourself, you know, number of bikes, history etc.
What's your location? Both Cantab and I are in Canterbury.
Enjoy the oRg !

That's for a gen2, the OP's is a gen1.
Seat latches are on opposite sides.
On the gen2, as shown, it's on the front.
On the gen1, it's on the rear.
You'll need a flat, wooden paint stirring stick, to fit between the passenger seat or cowl, and the tail fairing.
Most screwdrivers are too thick, and will chew up the paint and plastic

welcome! take the tre and toss it in the garbage and never look back. Find a good programmer and get better results. Six is exactly on base for the "boot". Keep in mind with some ressure on it, it may Fly off the bike once you release. Had one of mine do that. Ticked me off.

Also wanted to add, put a piece of electrical tape or something on tthe wire head and the trunck release where the wire hooks in. This will prevent this in the future.

Awesome!!!! This is great, we love Kiwi’s here. Welcome to the forum. Nice bike congrats!

Welcome, I see that along with the (useless) TRE, somebody has added rotors and a pipe. Is there a pc or anything on the bike?

Lol, I stand corrected, I think he will get the general idea anyway!

Thanks for all the feedback, it's really appreciated. Thanks also for the welcome ... feeling also for Chch bros and others at this time!!!!!!!

I'm in Hawke's Bay, Flaxmere, Hastings. Numerous harleys cruising round here, v-rods and breakouts ... and mainly the mob. I'm ex-military, Navy, from '79-2003 specialised in radio communications before leaving and working within the health industry and now Ministry of Education advisory role. Types of bikes I've had: - first bike was in 1976 with ape hangers (bicycle no motor), then xr250 then an xr and dr500 (use to do a bit a hooning around the back of Waiouru), 1982 suzuki gsx750f (loved this bike til my cousin wiped out on it), suzuki 1400, then a 1998 fatboy, back to suzuki vl1500, yamaha vf750 and now the Busa. Had a quad bike 500 for the beach ... fishing and such and kids ripping it up.

Busa is a 2005 Gen1 done about 65,000k. Scorpion pipes, heated grips (wired directly to battery it appears). Yep has rotors too and panels repainted. Not to sure what 'is there a pc or anything on the bike' or ''six is exactly on base for the boot'

So pieces of work this weekend:
1. Adjust chain
2. Remove rear seat and fix latch mechanism
3. Remove TRE (may have to get a pro to do this) and 're-tune'
4. Sort pack rack for touring/tripping

Hopefully my tank bag arrives over the next few days ... not into having anything on my back when riding hence fitting it with the rack and tank bag.

Thanks for the background, you certainly have been around the block lol.
Similar age and bike history to me, apart from the Harley, if ya need any help or technical advice on your bike don't hesitate to ask, there are many owners here with a lot of knowledge and willing to help in any way we can...keep posting with pics mate!

The PC I referred to is a dynojet Power Commander, it's a fuel injection controller. Many bikes have them or something similar added on after purchase, it allows the user to change aspects of the engine electronics for better performance.
