Is this really legal in Cali?

Just to add.  A cop buddy of mine told me in Cali traffic must be going slower than 25 mph for lane splitting to be done legally.
Frankly, I'm finding it harder to do with all the big SUV's on the roads these days.  Clipped my helmet on a mirror once.  Lucky it wasn't closer.

I was shooting the breeze with a CHP alongside the freeway, and when he gave me my license back, after I signed the Notice to Appear, I asked the rules about splitting and he said, "10 mph (some dispute here) faster than traffic, up to the speed limit, and only when safe to do so. So you can split up to the speed limit, but the cop will decide when it's safe to do so. It's actually called lane sharing so yes if you cross back and forth over the line you can get a ticket. Of course the cop has to stop you and their bikes are wider than ours.
